People say they get Showgirls, but then when they go on to say that it was a bad movie which simply demonstrates their philistine ignorance. Paul Verhoeven displays a brilliance that simply goes over the head of most non-creative mainstream movie junkies, who should just eat their popcorn and keep their opinions to themselves. Showgirls a film that has multiple layers with multiple meanings and it’s not Verhoeven’s fault that the average pea-brained viewer can’t sit through the multiple viewings required to explore the subtlety of his satire.

While I would concede on one level that Jack Nicklaus was a good golfer, in the sense of being able to hit the ball straight and get it into the hole with the fewest shots, his game is boring and predictable. He lacks the creative genius of Jose Maria Olazabal, who is for me the most important fairway presence of the past thirty years. Together with his partner Curt Strange, Olazabal is responsible for some of the really great moments both on the range and on the course.

By the way, should I change my name?
