Posting and M-W dictionary

Okay,I usta could go to the reply box and if I wanted to use a word that I wasn’t sure how to spell, why I’d just hit F1 which is where I keep my M-W,find the word and hit BACK,and it would neatly take me back to the exact place I was in my reply.(This is the only way I had to do it with my webtv.I can’t just carry a spell-check around with me. The only place I HAVE a spell-check is in e-mail.)

This new system, however, frowns on that for some reason. If I go to M-W now in the midst of a reply and then go back,it wipes out my whole post, leaving just a blank reply box.I then tried it with HYPERDICTIONARY. Same wipe-out result.

Question: I know that at this stage no one probably knows the answer to this, but on the off chance that someone does,or even has a WAG,will this eventually return to the way it was? I need my dictionary for checking spelling as much as definitions.I used to read dictionaries for fun and was constantly asked to spell words, but the combination of time and drugs has dulled my certainty of spelling.

Well, let’s not get lost here. Anyone got any ideas?

Woof,I guess I know how to ask unanswerable questions, but this is very bothersome to me,so I’m giving it a tiny tap.

I have no idea when, if ever, this new version will be kind to your F1 M-W, ageless6. However, in the interim, how about having another browser window open just for stuff like looking up the dictionary while you surf the board?

Thanks Ice Wolf, but as I said I have webtv and I don’t have that option.

Ah, sorry. I missed that bit. Well – there’s always a real dictionary to fall back on, I suppose.

Isn’t that also the answer to your OP?

I doubt that the vB developers are even trying any longer to support the WebTV interface. It seems with each new release, they get farther from something that’s workable. There simply aren’t enough WebTV subscribers anymore to justify expending the kind of effort it would take develop version of vB that’s fully functional with the WebTV requirements.

If you’re looking for a more conclusive answer, you could browse the vBulletin developers forum at www.vbulletin.com

Sorry I can’t help you more than that.

It’s not really a matter of WebTV “requirements”, from what I can tell. From the description, I believe that this is the same problem some people were having in that when they picked Back the page would reload. (It happens with me too, but I never pick Back.) If this problem is solved, I belive ageless6’s will also go away.

Ow,Uncle B:

You’re sort of an anti-harbinger of hope, but really I suspected I would be the target of bad news when I asked the question.

And then,maybe you’re wrong.You mods are human aren’t you? And hence,fallible? Don’t answer that.

See,there’s the problem;I think I spelled fallible correctly, but I’m not certain. If I keep looking at it,it starts to look like fall-ible,as in,"Now that I’ve climbed to the top of this tree,I’m really beginning to feel fall-ible. Maybe the word has only 2 Ls. After I post this I’m going to have to go to M-W to (too late) check.

Anyway Unc,thanks for the information.

Achernar:

Oh good,an infusion of hope.

::wild mood swing::

I believe for every drop of rain that falls,
a flower grows…

Where’s Frankie Laine when you need him?

I just tried this using WinXP Pro, IE6. Navigating away and then back will lose anything entered in the edit (a/k/a reply) box.

Achernar, can you copy and paste in WebTV?

Oh, I don’t have WebTV. I just meant that when I back up in Netscape, I also get a reload. Sorry for the confusion.

whoops, I meant ageless6. Sorry 'bout that.

fgarriel:

Yeah,I just read up on copying and pasting.I’ve never done it before and it confuses me,but it can be done.
