Posting those ad thingies with the tear-off numbers

Curious…what’s the legality of doing that in Chicago? Is a permit/license required to tape up one of these to, say, a light post or something???

I see it done enough that I can’t imagine The Man coming down hard on you, but have no idea what the legality is. Curious myself, since I might have cause to start posting those up in the not too distant future.

Illegal. See city ordinance 10-8-325.

Craigslist is probably more effective for most purposes, and certainly easier.

There are certain things, like computer repair (my gig), where your target audience is specifically people who don’t look on cl.

Heh…computer repair was exactly what I had in mind…I see this ad for a computer repair guy all over the Loyola area…and have for quite a while. So I’m guessing that despite the ordinance posted by Mr Downtown (thanks, btw), it’s illegal but seldom, if ever, enforced.

When I need a local expert like a computer repair shop, I go straight to Yelp. You might want to try to get a listing there. And a few testimonials, of course.

Um, how would you go to Yelp if your computer were broken?

Use another computer, duh. Or smartphone. Or have someone act as a go-between.
