We’re ready to get our granddaughter out of diapers (heh - been ready since the first poopy mess!!) and rather than trying to cram a stand-alone potty chair in a tiny bathroom, I’ve been looking at the folding seat/ladder/handhold models. If you’ve had any experience with these, I’d appreciate any feedback and recommendations.
There seems to be a wide range of prices - from low $20s to nearly $40. I don’t assume that more expensive means better quality and even the priciest ones won’t break my budget. But I want one that will last till it’s no longer needed. And it needs to fold for easy storage in the limited space. If it matters, the toilet to be used has a round bowl.
I haven’t seen that. But i own a little seat that you can put on to of a regular seat, and also a “squatty potty” stool that mostly tucks under the toilet when not in use. The two together take very little space, and make it easy for small people to use the big toilet.
The little seat is an almost flat piece of plastic. I think i got it from my mom, so i have no idea how I’d shop for one, or even what search terms to use. “Squatty potty” is a brand name, and there are cheaper no-name stools that are very similar. I think I’ve seen one for $12.95, and it looked completely functional.
This is what we did as well. We kept the stand alone baby potty in the living room for those emergencies but I really hated cleaning that thing more than doing diapers so we heavily encouraged the use of a real flushable potty. I also don’t like the seats that attached to the potty since it makes it harder for adults to use and I’ve always been uncomfortable trying to use the potty at my friends house when they had them. With the little flat piece of plastic it just sits next to the toilet until its needed.
I saw one of those ladder potty chairs about 7 years ago. I bought it for my daughter to use for her 2 toddlers - who are now 8 & 10! It seemed to work. I think the kids really liked the idea of climbing the ladder!
My toddler has a munchkin potty seat which sits on top of the existing toilet seat and is molded to help her sit in the right position. For climbing on, we just have a plastic rhino folding stool. I wish it was 1-2" taller, but it gets the job done (she also uses it to climb into the tub).
