This is certainly the type of administration where a person could get punched in the face by a cop and then charged with assaulting an officer for hurting the cop’s knuckles by resisting with one’s chin.

If only from how it looks politically, I would be slow to criticize individual police or national guards. I’m NOT saying to avoid deserved criticism, just to hold off when there is an “over/under,” and only make the verbal attack when we have heard both sides of the story and it is essentially proven.
ICE? They are also in the middle until proven otherwise. The quotas, pressuring them to arrest undocumented people who haven’t committed any crimes (or only a minor one many years ago), are not the fault of ICE officers.
Innocent undocumented Immigrants are sympathetic. Law abiding demonstrators are sympathetic. Others generally are not.
Civil disobedience? Yes, when it will help. Harboring innocent fugitives under decent conditions, in a church or elsewhere, is admirable. Stopping police from going in and out of a holding facility is grandstanding that will turn off swing voters and do nothing for the people we want to remain with us. Blocking traffic (unless you have a parade permit and the blocking is brief) is a good way to lose potential friends.
Anyone who joined ICE voluntarily and remained when Trump was reelected knew exactly what they would be doing. They love it. They want to destroy lives.
Swing voters are perhaps the lowest item on the list of concerns right now, IMO.
All this discussion about what the military will do is pointless. The California national guard has already deployed in LA on illegal orders.

Want to lay odds that when (if) the perpetrators are ever found, they’ll turn out to be right-wingers? In the George Floyd protests, most of the damage that was blamed on the protestors turned out to be from groups like the Hell’s Angels, Proud Boys, and Minneapolis PD.
It doesn’t matter how well the protestors behave themselves. There’s always some useful idiots willing to start violence, and once the violence is started, the government can direct their violence wherever they want.

Yes and even if a car was torched by the protesters, does that justify the national guard being deployed? LAPD can’t handle it?

Sure but at Nuremberg they didn’t have to deal with a Supreme Court stacked 6-3 in favor of the Nazis.
That same Supreme Court ruled that Trump is immune from criminal prosecution for anything that falls under his “official duties”. Of course he is going to claim that everything to do with getting rid of immigrants is his official duties, the whole reason he was elected, biggest mandate ever, etc. And early on he posted something about how nothing he does can be illegal if it’s meant to save the country. So he’s already laid the groundwork to give illegal orders that by his definition cannot be illegal because the SC ruled that he is special.
As for what happens to people who follow illegal orders, I’d imagine it will be similar to those who stormed the Capitol on Jan 6th. Democrats will put them in jail, Republicans will release them, pay them and call them heroes.

Yeah. I mean it does sound noble to walk out and say “I quit!” but sadly real life with mortgages, bills, families, etc intervene. Some do try to get out and transfer to another agency, but ICE and the ATF are pretty much on the bottom. And would a California police force take an ICE agent? But few have the financial ability to just quit.
Sorry, I should have been clearer. I agree that if Trump is successful in ending democracy in this country, ICE agents will never face legal consequences. I was speaking of the morality of what they are doing.
