Exactly. Among other principles, the Talmud asks “Is your blood redder?” If somebody is going to kill you, it is recommended that you kill them first. One of the other basic principles is that almost anything is permitted to save a life. This principle does NOT apply to the taking of innocent life. If the only way to save your own life is to kill an innocent, that is murder and it is wrong to do it. Your blood is not redder than any other human beings.
If ICE agents are obeying orders to destroy families, jail and deport innocent people just to keep themselves financially comfortable, that is wrong. It is an understandable decision. That does not make it the right decision.
I think a large proportion of the ICE agents are more like people who were rejected by the police force because they were found unsuitable, and can’t get, like, a mall security job either.
Since we don’t seem to know who they are, anything’s possible.
I heard ICE is hiring anyone Trump pardoned for 1/6 convictions.

Getting back to the thread, I think the justifications for joining the California National Guard are even stronger. And googling news reports, I do not see the National Guard yet doing anything I cannot defend (other than that the police should be deployed inside these buildings instead of military).
When to resign in protest depends on a lot of factors, both personal and in terms of the details of what you are having to do. A legitimate consideration is that you may be replaced by someone worse.
You did not, to my recollection, say this, but to respond to others: Neither the National Guard nor ICE agents are delivering people to the gas chambers. They are putting people at some risk of death, something that is possible with any immigration enforcement, certainly including that of any Democratic presidential administration. While Trump is going too far, and I oppose this policy, we are discrediting our own cause if we expect to eliminate all immigration enforcement tragedies, or if we equate Trumpers with Nazis.
Trump is trying to push Democrats into making as many enemies are possible. Don’t go along.
That is true. Neither did the Nazis at first. The erosion of legal rights didn’t happen in one day. Even when they started shipping people to Auschwitz, there were no gas chambers- not yet. An existing building was converted into a gas chamber later.
It never starts with gas chambers. It starts with a leader gaining power by stirring up hatred and assuring people that all their problems are the fault of some other group of people. Then legal rigts are gradually stripped away.
The process is well under way now. If we do not stop it, it will end in gas chambers.
If this kind of operation to arrest a few detainees is any indication, it’s no wonder they’re blowing through their budget. A cost per prisoner would be interesting.
According to the latest on CNN, ALL of downtown LA is now considered a non-gathering/protest place.
I just heard some talking heads noting that Trump’s order to deploy the National Guard isn’t tied to a specific location and rather than saying “for up to 60 days” says “for at least 60 days”.
Well, that should clear out the downtown LA homeless finally.

Homan is a STUPID TOOL. I would LOVE to see him try to execute an arrest of a sitting Governor or Mayor of any state or city. It would be a fail of enormous proportions.

I don’t typically like to judge people on their looks, but you can often infer a good deal of character from someone’s appearance. Homan looks like he should be in a cage in a zoo.
I mentioned in the cluster thread that this call-up of the National Guard by Trump proves, beyond any shadow of a doubt whatsoever, that he could have federalized and activated the Washington DC National Guard at any time he so desired on January 6, 2021.

The video I’ve seen seems to clearly show an officer raising and aiming at her deliberately. Thankfully the reporter seems to be ok. I’d like to think that officer got in a lot of trouble over this, but I’m not hopeful….
