You may be correct but since this is unknown territory it remains to be seen. I doubt they would be allowed to march into city hall past security without some type of challenge. But who knows.
Possibilities include:
A. Trump is an idiot.
B. It’s a mistake that any wannabe elected dictator’s staff could have made.
C. Trump wants to establish that he’s above the law before possibly following some of it, as he did with Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
I go for C on grounds you should not underestimate your adversary.

Congress should have had him in prison on 1/7. The DC cops and capitol police should have taken him into custody. I don’t care if he’s the queen of Sheba. He didn’t litter, he tried to overthrow the government of the United States of America. And he’s doing it again… You reap what you sow. And we turned the other way and whistle past the graveyard.
For those not familiar with Los Angeles, Downtown L.A. is a very small fraction of LA and is a generally crappy area where people don’t go to hangout like the downtown area of most major cities. The protests are in a small fraction of downtown. I drove from Santa Barbara through the San Fernando Valley into Hollywood and back yesterday and if you didn’t follow the news, you’d have no idea anything was going on. Similarly for the West Side where a lot of my family lives.
Yep, and also LA is really spread out. Downtown has a few interesting historical parts, government building and office buildings.
I have zero personal knowledge of LA and am very foggy on the geography. Nonetheless, I had the impression most of the protests were in various close-in suburbs of LA, not so much LA proper or downtown LA.

They are in downtown LA. There is one major protest and that’s where it is. There were certainly the usual weekend protests everywhere which is like a few people holding signs.
The 1992 Rodney King started in South Central and spread to everywhere more or less.
The protests earlier in the week were in small neighboring cities (not really suburbs) with large Latinx populations. The protestors that got the most attention yesterday were on the border of Downtown and Chinatown.

All these Marines and Guards are gonna be standing around for days with nothing to do and nowhere to sleep.
My daughter is in Sacramento for Jury Duty today and they have quite a few protestors there. Her husband has a friend with the police and he said they are preparing for riots. I just got home and haven’t had a chance to catch any locals news yet.
They have CHP officers stationed at the entrance to the freeway near the train station.
I hope they are overreacting a bit.
Unless there was some chatter out there that I’m not aware of, I really don’t think anyone, except perhaps for the insurrectionists themselves, predicted that anything of the sort would happen.
Trump passionately hates Newsom and I’m sure is itching for any excuse to arrest him. This would precipitate a pretty serious national crisis but this is exactly what Trump’s destructive tendencies are looking for.
Meanwhile, Don Jr has weighed in with another one of his usual intelligent and insightful opinions regarding the LA protesters: shoot them!
