Praxis I Testing--HELP!

I’m anticipating a return to college in the fall, but first I must score well on the Praxis I test (to be taken in the near future). (This is a test to be accepted for Teaching Certification.)

Has anyone taken the test and would like to share their experience? Things they wished they would have known beforehand, helpful hints, words of caution? I’ve looked at the sample questions on the Praxis site, and they seem pretty simple, so I’m hoping the entire test is pretty simple as well, however, I don’t want to be blind sided.

I’d really, truly appreciate any advice.

I took it. I can’t remember my exact scores, but I know I was at least 182 or 183 on all three of them - and the girls in the testing center kept saying that I could fail the last test (writing) with an INCREDIBLY low score and still pass the overall test:D. I was happy that day.

Honestly, it’s fairly easy. If you have basic math skills and slightly above average reading comprehension and writing skills, you’ll do fine. I stressed about the math because I can’t even balance my checkbook, and I got the highest score on that one. The writing multiple choice is slightly challenging - it almost seemed like some of them were worded oddly just to throw the test-taker off.

Take practice tests. If you can do well on those, you’ll do well on the regular test. Are you taking the computerized test or the written test? I took the computerized test, but either way - it’s still the same materials.

Don’t stress out. If you have the skills, you have the skills - you may just need to brush up on them by taking the practice tests.

It’s definitely not the LSAT (which I’ve also taken), but it’s nothing to blow off, either. Preparation is the key.

Feel free to email me if you want to chat about it. Good luck!
