Preacher -- The New Show / Old Comic Now Airing on AMC

He apologized to whatever the Eugene he’s seeing is. Whether it’s the real Eugene manifesting spiritually from Hell, or an angel/demon posing as him, or a figment of Jesse’s imagination, we’ve yet to find out.

A thought occurred to me this morning; when Jesse asked Odin to let him have one more Sunday service in the church, he mentioned that he’s going to “call God” and get some answers. My guess is he’s going to get the angels to attend the service somehow (probably by using Genesis), reveal them to the congregation, and get them to use their heaven-phone to literally call God.

An intriguing hypothesis!

I figured he’d just use Genesis on god directly.

I agree this could be interesting.

By the way, isn’t only one of them an angel? I seem to recall some dialogue to the effect that one might be from heaven and the other from ‘the other place;’ also a point was made of the phone being usable only by angels, and we’ve only seen the taller guy use it.

I’ve just caught up with this show, in anticipation of the finale (too soon!) The entire production team, and especially execs Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, are to be congratulated on how damn fine the show is. I was very skeptical in the beginning, as I don’t really enjoy the old ultraviolence—but that’s not the way the tone of the show is hitting me. It’s neither cynical nor prurient. Instead, it’s smart and humane (and witty).

Well done, Preacher team! I’m already feeling sad that we’ll have all those months to wait until season two.

Fiore (the tall one) and Deblanc are both angels. I think you’re thinking of the conversation about the origins of Genesis’ parents.

The short one definitely seems phone-phobic, though.

IIRC, he was coaching Fiore to answer the phone because “they love you up there”. I think he assumes that whoever was calling them would be more amenable to bad news if FIore was the one delivering it.

correct.

Preacher trailer from Comic-Con. Looks like the angels are definitely going with Option B.

No, I remember the ‘origins of Genesis’ parents’ conversation; this was something else. But it will take a while to find.

I did do a quick search to see if the dialogue I’m thinking of is online; I found some Tumblr pages in which people discuss the theory that Fiore is an angel and DeBlanc a demon (and also that they are a gay couple!)—but no one had posted the show-excerpt I’m thinking of. So I’ll leave it for now.

There was plenty of subtext pointing in that direction (one of them being from Hell), and this episode seemed to all but confirm it.

Was the embankment that Fiore and Deblanc were waiting for a ride below the same spot that Walter waited at in Breaking Bad? Or are there a lot of those around the Southwest?

Yes. It’s on Juan Tabo Blvd NE in Albuquerque. I used to live not that far from there. Like a lot of other movies/TV series, even if they are set elsewhere, they can be filmed in ABQ and surrounding areas. The long mountain ridge seen in many of the backgrounds is the 10000 ft Sandia Ridge on the eastern edge of ABQ.

Google Map link.

And Better Call Saul too. All three are filmed in Albuquerque.

Yeah, the DeBlanc-is-a-demon theory got some more fuel this episode. Let’s just hope that Cassidy grabbed one of Fiore’s hands.

Yeah, since they’re altering the story from the comic somewhat, could DeBlanc and Fiore turn out to be Genesis’ parents (who knows how angel/demon gender and sex works)?

Might explain the lullaby DeBlanc was using to coax Genesis out of Jesse.

Sure sounds like they’re the sires of Genesis.

Might also explain why they’re the “custodians” of the baby. Mind you, they looked quite different in the comic.

They might be the parents, but I have my doubts. When DeBlanc is telling the story of how Genesis came to be, Fiore remarks that the coupling was disgusting and that the angel and demon were both traitors. Maybe it’s self-loathing, but it seemed genuine.

Well it would be a departure from the source material, but they do seem to have a rather strong fondness for each other. If the Saints bullets are lethal, that poses a problem in Ep 9.
