I experienced the same thing in high school. A couple of friends and I, all guys, would go over to “Tom’s” house for a sleepover, his bedroom was in a small side house on the property because he had a bunch of younger siblings and he was the oldest so he got to live off by himself, so we could all get drunk. He’d invite one of his friends and we’d all get drunk and play video games. After a while we would wonder where “Tom” and his “friend” went off to, but we didn’t really care because that meant more beer for us.
A couple of years later he shyly annouced to us that he was gay. We all laughed and said, “Dude, we figured that out years ago.”
