Uhh… those ain’t conservative, man. Alberta is (by Canadian standards) but the others are not. And “Newfoundland and Labrador” is one province. That’s its whole name.
The other obvious problem is some of those are much too small to be states anyway. There’s only 50,000 people in all of Yukon, which is one of the reasons it isn’t a province.
ALL Canadian provinces and territories would be blue in the USA, even Alberta. Remember, these people want and expect publicaly funded health care.
Of course, not a single Canadian province would vote to become part of the USA anyway.
Trump just signed an Executive Order requiring “proof of citizenship” to vote. How will this affect elections? Expect selective enforcement: “I knew yer Grandma, Billie Joe. Y’all doan need no birth certif!” But “Your birth says Ethel D. Jackson, but your driver’s license says Ethel Dee Jackson. Sorry.”
Yes, this, plus Newfoundland at least relies a lot on seasonal work, supported by EI during the off season. No way would Trump allow that, but without it, lots of people would be unable to pay their bills.
PEI as well. I found a cite from 2007 that it’s about 10% for both.
No, it’s not dementia. He legitimately wants to conquer Canada.
There are some obvious reasons why. To Trump, it makes him seem powerful, like the person he admires more than anyone else, Putin. Trump is basically a mob boss, and taking voer more territory makes him a better, bigger mob boss. It’s also quite likely someone has told him that were the USA to take Canada, it’d make it the biggest country in the world. That matters to Trump.
Behind Trump you have oligarchs who look to profit from looting Canada of its resources.
Yes, I know, he’s only been hinting at annexation for three months nonstop and talking about how he wants to destroy the Canadian economy to weaken it. Doesn’t mean a thing.
I’m aware. When has he said anything about wanting to “conquer” Canada, or use military force against it at all? Because the only time I know of that he’s been asked about it he specifically ruled that out.
I think the logic is that the only way to bring Canada into the USA would be through the use of military force. So if he’s serious about having Canada join the US, and (bizarrely) he seems to be, then it’s going to require the military.
This. It’s like listening to somebody talk about how they want all of a bank’s money; the bank isn’t going to give them the money, which means there’s only one way to get it, and pretending otherwise is just silly.
You don’t pick up a gun, if you are not going to shoot it. There is no reason to aggress against Canada if Trump isn’t setting up to violate us.
We won’t believe him when he says “the gun isn’t loaded”. He lies. He lies every second, in every manner, we know better. There is NO REASON. Stop the threats! Stop the executive orders and rule by man! His words means NOTHING. Rule of law is the only thing we trust.
ETA: I just feel the need to repeat. WE OWE TRUMP NOTHING!
Then doesn’t it follow that he must be lying about wanting Canada to join the US?
You’re applying more logic to this than Trump is. The only reason he keeps saying “Canada should be our great 51st state” is because it popped the marks the first time he said it and he’s an utter glutton for attention.
The problem is not that Trump is a bloodthirsty conqueror who dreams of riding a tank into the streets of Ottawa. The problem is that he’s not mentally competent and he just says whatever pops into his head with no filter.
Why does he say he’ll annex Canada? Why does he rip up our treaties? Why does he talk of crippling our economy? His words lie, and HIS ACTION SPEAK LOUD!
Then why is he enabled? Why is his aggression and attacks allowed? Why is he not removed? Canada needs not trust TRUMP OR HIS FASCISTIC TOADIES. We owe him NOTHING. Nothing!
Fair enough. He only wants to destroy us, which is much better. For example, he’s threatening to tariff Canada and Europe if we (Canada) try to have separate trade deals with Europe.
