How far will elected MAGAts go with Canschluss?

I’m sure that for most elected MAGAts, Canschluss talk was fine, bacause it owned the libs. It was funny, and it made the old man happy. But they have to know it’s never going to happen. Canadians can’t be tariffed into joining the States, and I believe most sentient people, and more than a few MAGAts, won’t want to follow trump off the cliff with actual invasions, but where do they stop?

Conquest, genocide and/or mass enslavement. They won’t stop until the entire population is dead or slaves. Then Mexico, Panama, and so on get the same treatment.

I’ll just point out that there was a historical sentiment in Austria for a “Greater Germany” going back to the unification of Germany, and there were movements that periodically arose supporting some kind of union between Austria and Germany, especially after the fall of the Hapsburgs and dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Although that was waning at the time that the Nazi Party took control of Germany, Austria was actually under the control of a different, opposing fascist political party, the Vaterländische Front, but Nazi sentiment was high by 1938 and Austrian Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg had planned for a referendum on unification which was preempted the day before by the German Army marching in unopposed and running their own plebiscite to guarantee support. The Austrians collectively did little to oppose unification and nothing at all to protect their Jewish and Roma populations from ‘removal’ to death camps.

I daresay that very few people in Canada feel the same about the United States, and certainly the political leadership has little interest in cooperating with such plans. Combined with that is that Canada is a very large country and the US military lacks the wherewithal to occupy it effectively. Which is not to that Trump will not order the Secretary of Defense to engage in such an action, and a drunken, boorish Pete Hegseth might relay those orders down and remove generals and admirals until he gets some ‘leadership’ which will comply but it would be an immediate fiasco.

Stranger

In Trump 47? I think that Panama and Greenland are at greater risk, and digesting them would take several years. I do not know how to factor in the possibility of being bogged down in Mexico, but that also reduces the immediate risk to Canada.

If a MAGA president is elected in 2028, risks to Canada’s independence rise.

But the Trump 47 risk is real, and no one can quantify it.

The same goes for the chances that a U.S. invasion of Canada would be swift and successful.

No, he promised to quit drinking should he be confirmed, and I think we owe him the benefit of the doubt. Ahem, /s.

They do. They’re parroting the Mad King because nobody wants to be the first to tell him he’s insane.

And they don’t “know” any such thing, also because he’s insane.

They will ironically vote to fund his invasion, then ironically stage invasion forces near the Canadian border, then sarcastically start marching towards the border, then tragically find themselves in the middle of a war, because none of them ever thought it would actually happen, it was all just Trump “joking” or “applying pressure” or “that’s just a negotiating tactic.”

Despite his madness, at absolutely no point has Trump ever said he wants to invade Canada.

Think back to Operation Iraqi Freedom… no real threat to the US, no actual WMDs, and yet a reason to go to war was fabricated, Americans were inspired, cajoled, or shamed into the US going to war halfway around the world…
Operation Canadian Freedom if fought, will be fought in a theatre that is depressingly (from my location in Manitoba) way, way, way too fucking close to the US and its logistic support system.

And it took thirteen years of villainizing Iraq and Saddam to get the American people to that point.

Trump isn’t going to still be president in 2038.

We hope!

Just like he isn’t going to be President the last two times he won.

I don’t know what that’s supposed to mean or what it has to do with Canada, but I really don’t think I’m going out on a limb by predicting that a 91-year-old Donald Trump will not be serving his fifth term in 2038.

Well, I’m not sure the Iraq wars required getting the American people on side. The gap may be explained simply by the intervening Clinton presidency and 9/11, not a necessary 13-year PR campaign from 1991 to 2003 to get the people clamouring for war.

How many years did it take to start the Afghanistan war?

How many thousands of American civilians have been murdered by terrorists being harbored by the Canadian government?

You’re comparing apples to xylophones here.

I guess you missed that Canada is harboring Mexican fentanyl producers that murder 1,000,000s of Americans (through no action by the Americans apparently) every year?

Yes, because it’s not true and almost nobody actually believes that.

No, he just says he wants things that can only be achieved by an invasion. Which means he wants an invasion.
