Predict: Will Scotland vote to secede?

So when do the polls open, and when do they close? Both local time and “What’s that mean to me?” time (i.e. Eastern Daylight Time).

(I voted No.)

07:00 - 22:00 local (I’m sure you can work out your own local time). Result? Possibly 7 or 8 hours after polls close.

Is local time GMT? That would make it from 3 am to 6 pm here. Do they use daylight savings time?

I believe they are 5 hours ahead of Eastern Time, folks. We in the Eastern US should know by bedtime tomorrow.

Oh, and I don’t know if this poll will close in time, so let’s not vote past the end of polling time in Scotland tomorrow, right? I’d like to have an actual prediction of what we thought at the time.

Which means the results in North America will be available by about midnight tomorrow, I believe.

Here is Gordon Brown speaking pretty clearly about the vote. I think he makes some seriously valid points.

My God, that was a phenomenal speech: almost Kennedyesque. Wonderful!

I’m curious as to why “yes” would win because of postal ballots. Why would that be the case?

That would have to be an enormous number of ballots.

I know. I don’t remember Gordon Brown every giving such a great speech before.

I voted “yes.” I don’t know very much about the entire issue, but a yes victory would make the news interesting for a few days.

I hope the vote is no, they won’t separate. But I picked ‘yes’ in the poll because people like to make change. I think many people in Scotland will feel very empowered by this decision and people will come out of the woodwork to vote that maybe didn’t before.

I’m very interested, but I have no dog in the fight, really.

How does one share that on Facebook? I have an account but don’t do much with it.

ETA: Never Mind: Figured it out.

I think yes.

And why not? Can’t see a downside for an individual. They will keep their UK passports for themselves and the next generation so they will have all the travel rights of member of the EU.

If it goes pear shaped they can amble off across the border.

It won’t however go pear shaped as the surrounding countries will be better off with a healthy Scottish neighbour so will bail them out as necessary.

There’s going to be so many “No True Scotsman” wisecracks when the voting is over.
*“No True Scotsman would vote yes!”

“No True Scotsman would vote no!”*

Huh?

Conversation with Scotland’s First Minister, Alex Salmond on the subject.

I think he’s saying that voting “yes” is a chance to be part of something big so that might draw a few votes.

I wanna yes but reckon it’ll be no, 51% or 52%.
