But Romney was “severely conservative.” He said so himself, so it must be true.
What usually happens: the GOP will nominate a moderate (Dole, McCain, Romney, Jeb Bush), the moderate will get his butt kicked, and the Conventional Wisdom will be “The Republicans are too right-wing, and they have to move to the center if they ever want to win again.”
It is an actual quote from every Republican? Got a cite for that? And it better cover every republican. Otherwise I can sit here all day and list quotes of insane stuff Democrats have said. Stuff like ‘No classified email was sent from my server’.
I predict it will be:
"Hillary thought she had it wrapped up. So much for ‘inevitability.’*

- I personally hate just about everyone running on both sides. About the only person I think has any integrity is Sanders. However, if he gets elected he will be Carter jr.
If Trump wins, I might move to an island somewhere**
** Actually, I might move to an island anyway. Just depends on investments and the job market down there…
We’d have won, if not for those pesky kids! And their little dog too!
Most likely, though, it will depend on who gets through the circus and actually gets the nomination. If it’s Jeb, which looks unlikely right now, then they will say that they weren’t conservative enough and weren’t getting in touch with their base. That’s the mostly, to me, response. If it’s one of the more radical fruit loops then it’s hard to say…they might finally realize that moving to the right when you aren’t in touch with the center doesn’t not make for a happy time in national elections. If it’s Trump then they might be saying ‘well, it was a good run, but time to hang em up and go the way of the Federalists and Whigs!’ ![]()
“President-elect Walker was right to choose Vice-President-elect Trump as his running-mate.”
“Sucks that the other party can’t turn their people out.”
“I didn’t think so at the time, but it’s a good thing McConnell didn’t get rid of the filibuster rule when *we *were in charge.”
Good one, Elvis. Adaher, you’re dreaming again. Repeat to yourself 20 times: “2016 is not a midterm year.”
Repeat to yourself: “Obama is not on the ballot”.
Turnout will revert to 2004 levels.
Right, because Millennials will go back to being too young to vote.
And even if it did go back to 2004 levels, with the “browning” of the electorate since then that’s still a win for Big D.
Which means zilch for Democrats, especially with those very same brown people rather up in arms at the moment about how little use the Democrats are to them. This time around Democrats will have to earn every vote. There are no gimme votes for the Democratic Party outside the Straight Dope.
Here’s what the Democrats will likely be saying:
“We shouldn’t have tried to clear the field for a flawed candidate. We should have been more like the Republicans, sending up 15 of our best Democrats to oppose Clinton, like the Republicans did against Jeb.”
It’s sad too, because the Democrats have a deep roster of guys and gals in their 60s and early 70s who would be good candidates in 2016 but probably not in 2020 and beyond. All scared off because the party bigwigs rushed to get behind Clinton.
You’ve got me trembling in my Democratic boots.
“Good morning President Trump sir. My staff and I would like to congratulate you. Would you like your eggs scrambled or poached?”
And what do you feed to the squirrel on your head, Mr. President?
Let’s see if I understand your theory. Are you saying that there was a great turnout of Democrats in 2004 because they wanted to be part of history, electing the first black president? And you believe the turnout in 2016 to be part of electing the first female president would be less because you think there are more blacks than females in the US? I think I see a fly in your ointment.
Nah. You gotta subtract all the dark skinned women frm the “real American” women. The dark skinned women would vote for a dark skinned candidate, but not Hilary.
How to spot the loser of an argument: They attack someone’s looks.
At least you acknowledged Trump as the President.
I was attacking the squirrel’s looks, not Trump’s
“What *is *that thing under the squirrel?”
