Predictions: Is Mel Gibson done career wise or will this pass? And if it doesn't, who else is...

To me it seems like Mel has thought about the subject (all them war-mongering Jews) at length, and it’s not just some random thought that popped into his gin-addled brain all of a sudden upon getting pulled over by the cops, but as always, your mileage may vary…

I can’t load the audio from the above link. Here is one that worked for me. It is 8 minutes long, and at no point does Gibson sound sane. The entire 8 minutes is full of him calling her a cunt, threatening to hurt or kill her, wishing misery on her, etc. It’s painful to listen to.

The death threats were the most outrageous thing he said. Right after threatening to put her in a rose garden, he threatened to come over “right now”, after which she said she would call the police. That seemed to give him pause, but a few seconds later he was back to the verbal abuse. The man is sick.

Totally agreed. “You need a bat to the side of the head”

He’s huffing and puffing and panting. So sick

The huffing and puffing and hyperventilating were so melodramatic it almost seemed fake. He literally sputtered with fury. Unbelievable!

Wait… what’s the right amount of influence for Jews to have in Hollywood?

When he got busted for DWI a few years ago, THAT was the time to do a PR-sensitive tour, donating money to charities, putting in hours at soup kitchen, doing good in general. And he didn’t. If he did any sort of clean-image campaign now, it would look like the steaming pile of crap that it is.

He’s not sorry for what he’s done. He’s only sorry for getting caught. And people like him don’t take the responsibility on themselves. I’m sure to him it’s HER fault this is happening. She pissed him off, she deserved his abuse, she set him up, etc etc etc.

I have not heard of an abuser truly changing significantly for life via any other means than specialized programs and by actually taking responsibility. That is too much for your average every day person. Mel has yes-men and sycophants and some fans that will never leave. I would find it very unlikely that he would be able to find it in himself to truly change and to honestly try to make amends.

Now, if he can’t do those things, I think his career is pretty much over. Even people who would work with him or support him would get so much flack for doing so that they’d put their own careers first and drop him like a hot potato. If he self-finances stuff, he could do some work, but there might not be much success to it.

While he didn’t go so far as to kill the woman, let’s not forget that it’s not like before his conviction that OJ was welcomed with open arms in Hollywood. Some things go too far and I think Mel went too far. I think Mel is going to be treated like OJ.

I would like to think that this would shed light on the issue of domestic abuse but I suspect too many people are going to just keep with the ignorant “couples fight, she was just looking for money, but everyone says he’s a great guy, he makes great movies” line. If you can separate the art from the artist, that’s your thing, but it also doesn’t excuse someone just because he was in Lethal Weapon

Who else confused PotC with Pirates of the Carribbean instead of Passion of the Christ? Boy, was I confused!

Meee!!! I hadn’t actually figured it out though, until you just said. I had been sorta wondering why his money/starpower would be needed to get a Disney film made, especially with Johnny Depp attached…had even considered looking it up, but was too lazy (and didn’t care enough).

LOL! Actually, I think it’s about right. I meant as a percentage of the population.

I used to think the “baseball bat to the side of the head” comment was the most despicable thing in the new recording, but I have reconsidered. The “you don’t have any friends but me” line is actually the worst. Abusive people will try to isolate you from anyone who can help you, and feeling as if the abuser is the only person you can trust is just like a prison. Obviously she wasn’t falling for it, but when he said that line it made me realize he was not just having a meltdown, but was actively trying to destroy her in a way only someone who is evil to the core would consider.

It really is almost as scary as the audio itself. Very much like the Rihanna/Chris Brown case, but here we’ve got him pretty much admitting and threatening violence on tape (whereas a few gifted YouTube commenters tried to explain that she she’d attacked Chris Brown and got hurt while he was defending her). It’s pathetic but hardly rare. So much easier to make a million excuses why she deserves it (for being anything but a saint) than to admit that they may have to take the mental energy to reassess their view of someone they like.

A few years ago I worked with a woman who was in her 30s, well educated, and had been married and divorced a couple of times, so in other words- no babe in the woods. She went out with a guy she met online and they hit it off; he was well to do and on their third date, which was her birthday, he gave her a present: a two year old Mercedes.

Whether most people would or wouldn’t have accepted that expensive a present is another thread, but she did. She kept going out with him and he kept giving her expensive gifts, then he proposed and she accepted, and then before the wedding he beat the hell out of her. She had to go to the hospital, he got arrested- right in/right out- bad deal all around, but he got out of jail and against all pleas from her co-workers and friends she went back to him and they got married and lived happily ever after until he beat the hell out of her again.

Rinse lather repeat- they separated, he went to jail (right in right out), they got back together. The abuse continued, even after she got pregnant. We had all had enormous sympathy for her the first time this happened, significantly less the second time, and essentially none when she went back to him the third time and after.

A co-worker said it best: “Well, if she thinks a two year old Mercedes is worth getting her ass whipped, then she’s lucky to find a man with a two year old Mercedes who likes whipping her ass”.

Reason I mention the above is my opinion on Oksana Grigorieva. I’ve never met Mel Gibson and am usually thousands of miles away from him and I’ve never been a fanatic about his movies or about Hollywood stars in general, and yet even I knew the guy was a complete nutcase and violent and a substance abuser and a womanizer and a hypocritical religious loon and that he threatened violence against people who gave him bad reviews and that on top of everything else he’s a good bit older than her and has 7 kids; there’s no way in Hell she couldn’t have known this, yet she willingingly entered a relationship with him and had baby number 8 (for him, number 2 for her- her oldest is with Timothy Dalton).

As inexcusable as I think his actions are- and I really do, he’s a psycho- I think that it’s her version of “a two year old Mercedes is worth an ass whipping”. That kid ties him to her financially for at least 18 years (ain’t sayin’ she’s a golddigga, but… oh wait, that’s exactly what I’m saying). I think she bit off more than she realized from the nutbar, but I wish I could shake the notion that she’s in ecstacy over this; her baby’s down for an easy $50 million in his will and that means Mommy never has to work again, and thanks to the convenient recordings she doesn’t even have to sleep with his rabid frothing at the mouth self again.

Yeah, cause it’s impossible to believe that he maybe used those acting skills and years of practice, with his nice guy persona, to snow her. Maybe she was liking his wealth, wouldn’t you enjoy an extremely wealthy partner? They both knew what was what I figure. Doesn’t change that this behaviour is abusive. I mean she didn’t go straight to the press with this, she tried to see it through. She didn’t drop him when he knocked her teeth out, she tried to keep her family together, make it work. That’s what abused women do. But it doesn’t change that this is still abusive.

If you’re right and she was only after his money, why stay after he hit her so hard he knocked out her teeth? Go to the cops, get the photos taken and laugh all the way to the bank. But that’s not what she did.

Let’s be honest, neither one of them are the brightest bulbs on the tree. How could she not know he was an alcoholic and abusive? How could he not know she might take him for a fortune one day? I mean, come on, they are both adults and have both been around the track a couple of times.

None of which changes the fact that it’s illegal to knock out your woman’s teeth and threaten to kill her or burn down her domicile. Prick belongs in jail.

If she’s a gold digger (and I don’t think she is) because she had a baby with a rich celebrity - what does that make Mel? She’s a younger, stunning woman - arm candy. If she wanted money, he wanted a gorgeous sex bunny (to blow him every night, before the jacuzzi apparently). Seems like an equal relationship, to me. If you don’t want to be in a relationship with a gold digger, have a relationship with a peer.

But of course, someone like Mel probably wouldn’t want a relationship with a peer (an older woman with her own huge source of income) he would want someone he could control with money. If she is a gold digger, it’s just as likely that he wanted a woman without her own money, so she would more likely do whatever he wanted.

After listening to all tapes, I will not voluntarily contribute a dime to Mel Gibson in the future. I don’t care what he directs/produces/stars in.

I’m probably the only person in America who hasn’t heard the tapes, but I’m beginning to think it sounds like Gibson’s “Gimme back my son!” flip-out from Ransom that Jim Rome loves to play ad infinitum.

Pretty fucking horrible, and what’s worse is that it never dawned on him that she might be taping it, or someone else could be listening in. Which means he’s the kind of abusive nutjob who doesn’t tone it down because someone might hear, or have the ability to take it down a notch, if only to save some face. When he’s on a roll, he’s unstoppable!

Now, his career… definitely done as an actor. I understand as a director, he has some skills. So he will probably do that, and as the Polanski situation shows us, people don’t care a whole lot about what directors get up to.

There is a redemptive path available. He could do some self-revealing documentary, about Israel, Black dudes in prison, battered women… have those emotional breakdowns on camera to show how he’s grappling with these issues. Then he could go the route of Mike Tyson or Robert Downey, Jr. and act in some independent films. He might be "forgiven " if he does these things.

Recent article suggests Mel’s not likely to reappear any time soon; he was going to have a cameo in Hangover 2, but it sounds like the cast and crew objected to him and he was dumped: Mel ‘furious’ over Hangover 2 booting.

Mel, depending on how we’re keeping score, you’re looking at third or fourth chances.

As a side note, given the terminology used by the Aussie media, I wonder if the booting will occur in the Australian Parliament, or is it simply a symbolic booting?

Brainz …

But I would sort of not consider what Roman Polanski did as 'violent drugging and raping" as he gave her booze and downers, and raped her. Violent seems to mean he whacked her on the head, shoved a cloth with ether into her face and then raped her.

I am not a big Gibson fan, but I rarely choose what to watch based on the actor/directors politics or buttheadery or lack thereof. I tend to choose what I watch by how the trailer looks in general.

This is the most ridiculous nitpick I have ever seen. Rape is a violent act whether he hit her with a shovel or drugged her.

All forcible rape is violence by definition. He rammed his cock up her ass against her will. That is violence.

I’m happy that he didn’t get the role, but Mike Tyson was a formerly drug-addicted, abusive, convicted rapist. The cast and crew can’t really act like they’re taking some moral high ground here.
