The President of Nigeria (Umaru Musa Yar’Adua) has been pulling a Castro for the last two months. He was rushed to a Saudi hospital in November and has stayed out of the spotlight since then; understandably, this has embolden his political rivals who have been accusing the administration of forging his signature for bills and have been calling this a phantom regime. There are also unsquashable rumours of his death.
So, how is this gonna play out for Africa’s most populous country? My predictions range from Yar’Adua “biting it” and the vice president taking over to him weakly recovering. Do share your opinion…
I am the Former President of Nigeria, and I am Seeking your Esteemed Assistance in transfering 22 million Pounds Sterling to a Bank in your Country … .
You were recently contacted by husband, the former President of Nigeria about the transfer of 22 mln GBP. You may have also seen reports of his demise in the media, which is being kept secret by members of the government while they try to uncover the location of the money. I assure you that I am still in control of the funds, and with your cooperation we can transfer these to a safe location, and you can earn the $2m fee that you had agreed to…
I understand that one of my wives is trying to swindle you out of some money. Rest Assured that she is not the Favourite Wife of mine, and that it is another (my Senior Wife) who has the password to my bank accounts. …
President Yar’Adua probably has something worse than ordinary pericarditis since he is supposedly worsening and has been hospitalized for so long. I bet he checks out of the hospital in a permanently horizontal mode. But good luck with Goodluck changing anything for Nigeria, if that’s your question.
I knew Yar’Adua couldn’t keep the naysaying rivals at bay forever. I wonder how is this going to play out in the Muslim north? I hope Jonathan’s reign is responsible, competent, and short lasting… for Nigeria’s sake.
However I tend to have faith in Nigeria, the federal government seems to always pride itself in being a stabilizing force (even if it is still badly corrupted).
