I have a question that I need help answering please. Ok here’s the question I think I might be pregnant but I don’t know. I had sex like 4 days before my period but then when the day that I should have had my period it did not come and it’s been almost 13 days since it should have came. I mean I have a bunch of the symptoms including:
• tender swollen breast
• neusea- mostly without throwing up
• mood swings
• nasal congestion
• dizziness
• cramping- without blood
• lightheadedness
• shortness of breath
• feeling sleepy
• vivid dreams
• abdominal bloating
• pooping a lot more than usual
• Whiny ness
The only thing is I think it’s to early to take a pregnancy test and I looked up if I could experience symptoms this soon…what I found out is as you conceive that you can experience symptoms the next day. I really need help. Do you think I might be pregnant. I need help answering this question ASAP!!!
The pregnancy test “First Response” advertised that you can get accurate results as soon as 6 days BEFORE any missed menstruation. I’m not a doctor, but I’ve never heard of nasal congestion being a pregnancy symptom. Some of the others can also be a reaction to stress or anxiety.
This site could be useful to you.
I suspect your mind is playing tricks. They’re sneaky that way.
Get a real test as soon as possible and quit fighting the ‘possible’.
I’ll leave it to more experienced folks to say if the drugstore pregnancy tests are worthwhile.
Whatever they do or do not say, you will want a real test to be certain.
Medical advice is best suited to IMHO.

No one here can tell you. Could just be a wonky period. Go pee on a stick.
First Response is all you need. Rather than get yourself in an anxious frenzy–which I understand, I do–just take a deep breath and go pick up that test. More than enough time has passed for it to tell you whether or not you are. FR confirmed my pregnancy with my first a few days before my period was due, and just a day or two after it was due with my second.
Do not get generic. You don’t have to use first morning urine, but it tends to be the preferred time. (I’m not sure if this is accurate or not, but the thought is the urine is more concentrated, and thus the hormone more easily detected.) And note that while false negatives happen somewhat frequently (always retest 72 hours or so later as hormone levels double in that time period this early on), false positives in general do not happen.
Gentle hugs.
Thanks so much for your responses I’m actually not really that worried about it quite yet I know that might be bad to say but my boyfriend and i have talked about it a lot on what we are going to do but I wanted to get other people’s input so thanks again. So I shout get first response and if it says either negative or positive I should still call my doctor?
Yes.
Again, I’m not a doctor and don’t know anything about your medical history. That said, just one wonky period IMHO does not necessarily require a doctor visit if the tests are negative. A lot of quite innocuous things can cause that.
If it’s positive, then obviously you’ll have to consult a medical professional at some point.
Two stories:
-
When I was in grad school my period was once two weeks late – and I usually have an incredibly consistent cycle; you could set calendars by me. I wasn’t pregnant (which would anyway have been biologically impossible as I hadn’t had sex that month); it turned out it was mostly stress due to a particular situation I was in at that time.
-
When I actually got pregnant (many years later), I called my doctor’s office after getting the positive (a couple of days after my period was supposed to start) and they said, “Oh, those tests are really quite accurate. If you get a positive that means you’re going to have a baby. Congratulations!”
So when do you think I should take a test? I mean do you think I should wait a a little longer?
At 13 days after your expected period, you would be nearly six weeks along and should get a dark, strong line if you are pregnant. Yes, go ahead and test now.
6 weeks? She had sex 4 days before her expected period. Expected period was 13 days ago. If she’s pregnant, it’s by 17 days… ?
You can get a pregnancy test stick at walmart or the dollar store for around a buck, you can even get a bulk pack online really cheap like cents a piece for a hundred.
Just test to see, it is no big deal at least financially. And yes I do know how big this is emotionally, but just saying get a test and find out.
4 days before an expected period is one of the safer times in the month to have sex (if your goal is not to conceive). In theory, you should have been at peak fertility a week or so before that. Take the test to put your mind at ease.
Welcome to the joys of doctors views of pregnancy. They don’t take us lying wimmin’s word for it about when we had sex/ovulated, and they count the pregnancy as starting on the first day of the last period. Yup, usually about two weeks before you even ovulated or had sex.
This is particularly infuriating for women with fertility problems who had IVF so know to the hour when conception/implantation occurred, but are still over-ruled by the doctors adding on two weeks to the pregnancy.
OP - I understand you’ve come here for support and advice. My advice is buy a test, even a dollar store one (or poundshop, depending what country you’re in) and take it from there. There’s no point worrying about what-ifs, get the facts and then we can support your wonderings better.
Oh, and no, it’s not too soon to test - I tested on day 28 (I have a 26 day cycle, so knew I was technically late) and got a faint positive on a £1 test that quickly.
Don’t wait. If you are pregnant and want the baby, you can start pre-natal care right away. If you don’t want the baby, you can take steps to terminate it. The earlier you do it, the easier it will be.
Mind you it’s highly unlikely with the timing, only 4 days prior to her period, that she was fertile at all. Assuming a normal cycle she should have ovulated about 14 days before her period was due and that would have ended her fertility for that period. And again, assuming no prior sex earlier in July.
Or up a rope.
Hey Newgirl, how’s everything now?
