John Doe had died. At the moment of death, he learned everything there was to know. Somehow, he came back to life just after learning everything.
Only five episodes of Eyes were aired this spring. I thought it had potential and was slowly hinting at an interesting arc. Appearantly not enough people thought as I did.
Season One was the Best TV Show Ever (see my many other posts making this exact claim) – but I’m not sure the magic was repeatable. It was the combination of Benzali with the then-unknown Stanley Tucci.
My nominee: Dabney Coleman’s Buffalo Bill.
Though it had a five year run, Angel ended too soon for me. I thought its last year was its best.
In the category of shows that went off the air before I saw them on the air, and subsequently discovered on DVD, I’d echo Firefly, Dead Like Me, and the not yet mentioned Wonderfalls.
-God, the Devil and Bob
-Doctor, Doctor
-and the one earlier this year about the young quirky couple. He owned a record store, she had Tom Poston’s character living in her closet.
What?? Where did they say that? I loved John Doe, BTW. I was really upset when they cancelled that, too.
Two of my favorites, Firefly and Sports Night, have already been mentioned. I’ll throw Kim Possible into the mix.
Didn’t that get a reprieve? Maybe I misunderstood or my brothers (KP fans) didn’t understand something.
I really liked Clone High when it was on. Funny, funny show. Plus it had one of the best TV theme songs I’ve ever heard.
I haven’t seen it since it aired originally in 1992 but I remember thinking this show was funny as hell and deserved a longer shot at building an audience.
The Jackie Thomas Show, starring Tom Arnold
Definitely Joan of Arcadia, along with Freaks and Geeks and gulp Enterprise. Yep, I think that they cancelled it prematurely - and found TPTB’s way of ending it extremely unsatisfactory. I didn’t catch Firefly when it aired originally but have been watching on SciFi and liking it; I also liked Farscape but didn’t keep track of it very well. Oh yeah, and Dead Like Me - what a great show!
Firefly, of course.
And if you do, don’t let Fox have it.
…and if you do, don’t let them put it on Friday night.
Brimstone and Cupid.
Does anyone else remember As If? It ran after Buffy for a couple episodes about three years ago.
As far as I can tell from the various stuff on the internet, KP stopped production in Feb, the stuff they’ve been showing here and there during the summer is what was left to show, and there are currently no plans to do any more. There is some hope for various reasons - in particular, the impending Disney CEO change has some possibilities, and KP remains hugely popular. As of now, though, it looks like what’s done is done and there ain’t no more being made.
(disclaimer: I could have missed something, since I’m not a TOTAL ultra-fanboy. But I think that’s all correct)
The Lone Gunmen
…and THEN the way they went out in that pathetic episode of the X-Files…
:: burst into tears ::
These were canceled before I started watching prime time TV
But 2 of the best shows ever were:
Star Trek: 78 or 79 episodes 66-69
The Addams Family (1964) [TV-Series 1964-1966] only 64 episodes.
Before I was born by a good margin:
The Ernie Kovacs Show (1952) 6 episodes.
When I was little, PBS once air these gems for 1 week. I barely remember the shows but remember being enthralled by the genius. Perhaps some older dopers could comment.
