Preparing a CD for Macs

I’m putting together a CD of photos from my college Homecoming for my classmates, and I’ve found nice freeware menu and slideshow programs to make it easier for them to view the pix. All well and good, but they’re PC programs, and I’m sure that some of my friends will have Macs. (I have a PC, obviously, and no easy access to a Mac.)

So what, if anything, can I do for my Mac friends? Am I right in assuming that even though they won’t be able to use the programs, they should be able to access the disc and view the pictures (jpg format) with their usual image viewing program?

What directions should I provide to help them see them?

I suppose I could create a bunch of simple html pages to recreate the slideshow. That would work, right? (Of course, it may be more work than I’m interesting in doing.)

Any other hints, tips, dos, or don’ts for me?

Thanks.

Half of it is done already – unless some old fart is using system 7, a Mac can read any PC disk. JPGview (JPEGview?) can do slideshows, and I think there’s a free trial download. I don’t know if there’s a permission or ethics problem with that, though.

Do you have access to a copy of Adobe Photoshop? It has a tool that can take a folder full of pictures and turn them into a web slideshow, complete with thumbnails and captions, automatically. You just set up the parameters you want, select the folder, and Photoshop does the rest.

You can also set up a presentation in PowerPoint for your pictures and save it as a PowerPoint show. The MS Office products are pretty interchangeable between PC’s and Macs running recent Mac Os’s.
