President Joe Biden and the runup to the 2024 election

There are very fine demographics on both sides.

They’re split right down the middle into demi-graphics.

Who like demi-glaces.

What exactly does Trump do to the “economy”? Building prison camps and feeding the prisoners till they are shipped out is going to be costly.

All these “things” Trump promises to do are with executive powers. None whatsoever have to do with the economy.

Don’t ask me. I just provided the cite for the quote when asked. I don’t know how blue collar union workers think in the UAW. Maybe they think electric cars are going to kill their jobs. Or maybe the union leader misspoke, or guessed. I have no idea.

… is the manufacture of electric cars exempt from labor laws and regulations? Fascinating if true. Cite?

It’s pretty clear that he misspoke.

The problem is that it isn’t just the GOP and the Kremlin that view Biden as old. I’m a true blue Democrat who likes Biden and has no doubt about his mental faculties, but whenever I see him talk I think to myself “Boy does he look old”. He has a raspy voice and his movements are slow and muted with perhaps a slight tremor. Compared to booming Trump’s bombast he looks positively ancient.

So even though the claims of senility are overblown and are likely more relevant to Trump, it is an easy and obvious target.

Yeah, the fact that he said the exact opposite in another interview days later, and the fact that it contradicted everything else he was saying even in that same interview, that makes it clear.

Or maybe you did not read the whole thing for context, and just saw a headline that comported with your preconceived notions.

(Consults Occam’s Razor Magic 8 Ball: “Answer is very likely yes”)

Compared to trumos obvious senility, Biden looks the picture of health.

Well sure, if you actually listen to the words everything changes.

I can’t even stand the sound of Trump’s voice, but yeah, you’re right.

Troubling news; Dark Brandon almost got loose last month.

Looks like Biden’s brain is working just fine.

He certainly has a keen grasp on the essentials of his likely opponent this fall.

The truth is a good defense.

I’m not sure if this is the right thread for this, but it seems appropriate (?).

The trump campaign paid $20K to fake a union rally. Sorry, I can’t imbed the story directly from MTN.

Here’s the direct story on Meidas Touch (in case people have problems with Twitter/X), and as @not_what_you_d_expect said it won’t embed properly due to Discourse:

Trump Campaign Paid $20K to Fake a Union Rally

It’s related directly to the Union support for Biden mentioned earlier in this thread, and shows how Trump’s campaign is attempting to respond to it. That seems relevant to me even though it’s about something the Trump side did.

That story cites a couple of others that should hopefully embed properly:

It shows that the support Biden is getting from the UAW is seen as a massive threat, so much so that they are scrambling to set up a Potemkin village of illusionary support to counter it.

Further evidence that the idea that the “vast majority” of union folks will vote for Trump is not true and was based on a simple gaffe from the union president in one moment of an interview.

I caught some of the dignified transfer ceremony on the news today. President Biden was there, standing out in the cold, solemnly taking part in the ceremony. He has empathy and you can see genuine emotion on his face.

I wonder what kind of excuse Trump would have made so that he could be anywhere else but on that tarmac. In just the few minutes I watched, I could see it is the kind of military ceremony that is planned down to each footstep. If someone had forced Trump to go, he would have gotten bored and started wandering around, embarrassing his nation and dishonoring its soldiers. He also would likely have added some crass comments about his low opinion of the soldiers for joining up in the first place.

Biden handled the situation with dignity and respect. He did not need to be there but he showed up. He comforted the families. And he didn’t bring shame to the nation in the process.

Edit: I should also clarify that I don’t think Biden did this as a political thing. I think he would have been there even if the cameras weren’t.
