President Joe Biden and the runup to the 2024 election

Agreed. Granted, from a cynical perspective it certainly doesn’t hurt his campaign, but I think he’d go to every one of those ceremonies he could, just from respect.

Calling Key and Peele!

Well, dang! MAGAt heads exploding all over town.

Because even Fox News agrees that this economy is in the “Goldilocks” zone. This is as good as it gets.

If Republicans were counting on bad-economy stories to bury Democratic chances in the upcoming election, they might need to think of something else. Because it sounds like President Joe Biden has already, to steal a phrase, "made America great again.” Only he’s done it without the racism, misogyny, and anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric—and without turning every national park into an oil refinery.

I know, I know-- trumpy is saying things are booming because people are anticipating his return to the presidency. Whatever.

Oh, you and your evidence! Don’t worry though; more bullshit talking points based on fabricated nonsense are sure to be trotted out soon enough.

I say things are booming because people are anticipating Trump being frog-marched into a jail cell.

It’s certainly raised my spirits!

Biden tonight won 96% of the vote in the South Carolina primary. However, the turnout was only about 25% of the 2020 primary vote, and he received fewer than half the votes he did in 2020.

Glass half empty: lack of enthusiasm
Glass half-full: Trump only got 51% in the Iowa caucus

What say you all?

Who is Biden running against that has a snowball’s chance in the Antarctic to get the nomination?

In 2020 Biden was in a seven-way dog fight with Sanders, Steyer, Buttigeig, Warren, Gabbard, and Klobuchar by the time he hit South Carolina. He ended up winning a plurality of 48.6% of the votes in that crowded field and split the delegates with the 2nd place Sanders 39-15.

Completely different campaign this time. This was an anointment, not a contest.

Glass half-full. Who did Trump run against in Iowa that has a snowball’s chance in the Antarctic to get the nomination?

Naw, Its known that Biden has the nom.

Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley. (Both of who actually could be the nominee if Trump was not running.)

On the other hand, Marianne Williamson wouldn’t have that chance unless she were running unopposed . . . and even then it’s not a certainty.
Dean Phillips is conceivable . . . but then so were Hubert Humphrey and Walter Mondale.

I propose this as his campaign slogan,
Vote for Phillips, Minnesota deserves a hat trick!

So I should raise a glass of spirits?

Like I need an excuse …

Turnout is almost always low in non competitive primaries. Pretty sure it was about this low in '12.

“It was extremely cold that day, one of the coldest days they’ve ever had there. They said, “sir, it’s too cold, you have to stay warm”, these are very tough guys, and it’s so cold they’re in tears. And they’re saying the Earth is supposed to be warming, but it’s cold, tremendously cold in terms of temperature. Very smart. (taps on forehead) But the fake news doesn’t like to talk about the cold, all they say on the television is “TRUMP SNUBS VETS” but there’s no snub, no snub, the snub is on the Fake News.”

In the latest 538 podcast, they mention an interesting stat: While both Democrats and Republicans tend to say the economy is doing better (than the average response) when their party holds the presidency, and that its doing worse when the other party is, Republicans swing further than Democrats, at both ends.

That is, more Democrats than Republicans are smart enough to recognize that not everything about the economy is necessarily bad when a Republican is in office, nor is everything necessarily good when a Democrat is, and that the economy doesn’t magically change overnight on Inauguration Day, and that in any case a president doesn’t have full control over the economy.

Well, THIS is obvious to anyone with a molecule of common sense, but the president always gets both blame and credit for things that the president has little to do with and/or no control over. The president is a target for people’s disappointments and aspirations. Goes with the job.

The glass is all we have to drink. Everyone knows Biden is going to be the nominee, so why drag your ass out to vote in a pointless primary? Any other incumbent President with the economy he has would be unchallenged in the primary. Even with a lower turnout by “unenthusiastic” Biden voters, the challengers got only 4% between them.
