Didn’t that happen and they didn’t like him saying that?
Yeah, they boo’ed that part and then carried on like he didn’t say it. They just ignore the inconvenient parts and then almost immediately forget they ever happened at all. I imagine if you asked any of them now, they’d claim he didn’t mean it or never said it in the first place.
Biden’s on TikTok now. Will that bring in the youth enthusiasm he needs?
Didn’t Biden ban Ticktok on government devices?
Banned government departments from having Tik Tok accounts, yes. I disagree with this, but both Trump and Biden have had issues with TT, as well as I, so who knows? I am of the (likely uninformed) opinion that TT should just be banned from the American marketplace.
He signed the law but it wasn’t an executive order, it went through Congress as usual and was just part of a huge bill.
As mentioned, Trump was the first to try to have it banned in 2020, and in fact Biden reversed this executive order that Trump had enacted:
Though Biden afterward requested a review of potential security issues that might arise from using foreign-owned applications.
It was Republicans who tried to pass the Averting the National Threat of Internet Surveillance, Oppressive Censorship and Influence, and Algorithmic Learning by the Chinese Communist Party Act (ANTI-SOCIAL CCP Act) prior to the later law that Biden signed.
The opposition to TikTok has mostly been from the Republican side, though Democrats have also been wary as well, so it’s somewhat bipartisan.
Yes, it should be banned, and of course government groups should not use it. It does gather personal info for Chinese government hackers. It also encourages Americans to do really fucking stupid things. Finally, a vid shared on tiktak is nowhere as good as one for Youtube- smaller and of lesser quality.
OGod, if Paul Krugman is losing hope…

Most important is that Biden has been a remarkably effective president. Trump spent four years claiming that a major infrastructure initiative was just around the corner, to the point that “It’s infrastructure week!” became a running joke; Biden actually got legislation passed. Trump promised to revive American manufacturing, but didn’t. Biden’s technology and climate policies — the latter passed against heavy odds — have produced a surge in manufacturing investment. His enhancement of Obamacare has brought health insurance coverage to millions. If you ask me, these achievements say a lot more about Biden’s capacity than his occasional verbal slips.
And what about his opponent, who is only four years younger? Maybe some people are impressed by the fact that Trump talks loud and mean. But what about what he’s actually saying in his speeches? They’re frequently rambling word salads, full of bizarre claims like his assertion on Friday that if he loses in November, “they’re going to change the name of Pennsylvania.”
…
… Trump declared that he wouldn’t intervene to help “delinquent” NATO members if Russia were to attack them, even suggesting that he might encourage such an attack. He seems to regard NATO as nothing more than a protection racket and after all this time still has no idea how the alliance works.
…
As I said, until just the other day I was feeling somewhat optimistic. But now I’m deeply troubled about our nation’s future.
Singing to the choir, I know. I value Krugman’s analyses, and if he’s this worried, I’m really worried.
I just want to offer a small moment of respect for whatever anonymous hero crafted that acronym.
This article goes over a way that Biden could step aside at the convention. I think it’s a terrible idea, but it is one way to get a younger candidate in to soothe people’s anxieties.
Yes, because trump is like 3-4 years younger. This will guarantee a trump victory.
There AREN’T any younger candidates. Besides, being younger isn’t in itself a qualification for President. (Not saying that you’re saying it is.)
In 2028 we will have Harris-59- and Newsom- 56. Maybe Stacey Abrams-50.
What you have to do to be well-qualified makes a bigger target for opposition research. Exhibit: Hillary.
Biden is by far the best-qualified person to be President due to having done the job. (Trump also? He watched TV for hours when he should have been working.)
Secretaries of state are next best qualified but always have had some big historic failures.
Governors are a good balance between being a little qualified and having a smaller oppo research exposure.
Someone may say oppo research doesn’t matter because Trump can just make things up. He will. But dirt based on a smidgen of truth is more damaging than completely made-up dirt.
More than that, he is best qualified because of his intimate and functional knowledge of how Congress works. And how to work with Congress.
Nope, not so much.
The President MUST be able to work with Congress (both chambers). Even a hostile, foot-dragging Congress. This is sine qua non of the Presidency.
The only other person who could be anywhere near as effective as Biden in this is Nancy Pelosi, and she doesn’t at top be President.
There is no one else right now.
Could you imagine if Biden stepped down, stating that it’s up to a new and younger generation to take over, and then 83-year-old Nancy Pelosi was nominated?
Hehe, that would be sweet!
And of course the MAGAs are complaining about Taylor swift and the fact that the camera stayed on her rather than the game. Yep- for something short of a minute.
Taylor Swift’s screen time for Super Bowl has been revealed after furious viewers made same complaint
Ok, what am I missing? Why is this in the Joe Biden thread? (I can be dense…)
