“As We See It”, a show I stumbled upon on Amazon. I gave it a try with out knowing what it was about or having any expectations. It was surprisingly good and getting rave reviews. (Bonus, it has Kevin Bacon’s daughter in it. lol)
Anyway, it’s about three 20-somethings sharing an apartment together. Each have autism and all with their own unique quirks.
I didn’t notice what forum this was in, and from the title I was imagining Amazon turning into Craigslist, where you can put up a photo of your 7-year-old washing machine and invite bids.
Expanding, it is a “feel bad” series. It is serious drama about the Three Quirky Kids and their families, with 90% of the things that happen to all of them being awful. Think about Rain Man, except they trimmed down the movie to just the scenes of Dustin Hoffman distressed over missing Wopner, Tom Cruise distressed about not getting to keep custody of him, and instead of being a rich guy selling high-end spirts cars, Tom Cruise is nearly destitute. The series is sure to get critical praise, but it is a serious downer from beginning to end.
I feel like that’s a little harsh. But that said, the show labels itself as a “comedy drama”. I’ve only watched the first 3 episodes so far and I have yet to see very many Ha-ha moments yet.
It is only funny to the type of people who find humor in the struggles of mentally disabled people. It is definitely a “laugh at, not with” kind of humor for people who find humor. I cringed through the whole thing.

Eh, I don’t know about that. The show’s creator is autistic and so are the main actors in the show. I guess the creator (Jason Katims) may have been shooting for a Sheldon Cooper type vibe with the character he plays.
