OK, I need to get rid of some of these puppies. I’m going to sell 4 or 5 of my acoustics–I very seldom play them, and paying off the money we borrowed for the adoptions is probably a better way to invest the money.
I don’t want to get a bad rep on eBay–if I put them up for auction with a high minimum, will that cause me trouble? Is there any better way to get reasonable estimates on what they are worth?
I think if you put the minimum bid as the lowest you’ll take for the guitar, you can’t go wrong. I’m not sure how much further strategy is required.
I haven’t yet figured out the strategies of selling multiple items, but I suspect offering them on different end dates is a good idea. I found it frustrating when I was looking for a used acoustic a couple of months ago that there would be 4 guitars offered by the same seller, and all the auctions ended within a couple of hours of each other. I was concerned that I couldn’t effectively bid on one, not get it, then bid on another. If I bid on more than one I would run the risk of buying 2 or 3 guitars.
Make sure you let us know when you put them up for auction. I’d at least like to look at them.
Sure - check eBay for old auctions to see how much those models have gone for in the past. Also Google in general to find online dealer amd CraigsList listings. Before I sell gear on eBay I do this to get a sense of a reasonable range so I can calibrate my minimum bid…
At least one is unique–a Dan Electro, apparently made out of spare parts (from when the company went under). It’s a thin-body acoustic which I had fitted with a custom bridge and a piezo pickup.
