Priest Molests 17-Year-Old... for Jesus!

And he’ll only get between 15 months and seven years. Which makes sense, because it wasn’t sexual in nature.

Of course, when a priest inflicts pain on a teen’s genitals while the boy’s hung upside-down and praying, well, rational people might begin to wonder. But, since God only prohibits men lying with men, I guess it’s A-OK in the eyes of the Church. After all, doesn’t the Church need more sub… er, flagellants?

Liar. From your own fucking sources…

<snip>

No, it is not okay in the eyes of the Church, and you know that. Grind your axe somewhere else.

There are stupid things on this planet, but I never thought the people on the SDMB would need smilies to detect sarcasm.

Here’s one for you two, fresh outta my hairy ass:

I think what Derleth meant was that it was probably the freako priest’s deranged thought processes “it’s not sexual in nature, therefore it must be OK with the church”.

That’s how i read the sarcasm anyway.

You know, I’m just a heathen, but…I somehow get the feeling that this wasn’t what Jesus had in mind. At any point in his life. Not even in college, or that one time in band camp. Or even when he was hanging on the cross, delerious from pain, blood loss, heat stroke, and friggin’ vulture bites.

You know what (all of you)? Considering the fact that it has been proven time and time again that the Catholic Church has protected pedophiles( not because they support pedophelia, but to shield the Church from embarassment) it seems slightly disingenuous to try to suggest that there is any legitimate Church ritual that involves touching the genetils of anyone, much less a minor. Crap, I am not even a Christian, but I know that fondeling genitals is not an accepted Christian practice.

I’m not Catholic, but I’d be willing to give the church the benefit of the doubt here. What amazes and appals me is the priest’s ability to rationalize his behaviour. It doesn’t surprise me, though. I’ve come to realize human beings can rationalize just about any behaviour, no matter how heinous. From what I’ve seen of people, I wouldn’t be surpised to learn that the priest has managed to convince himself that it wasn’t sexual in nature and that he was serving God. Come on, if Fred Phelps can do it, anyone can!

I’m just sorry for the young men he molested.

CJ

Oh please…If I had a dollar for each pit thread where molestation charges against individual priests were ALSO used to make general slams against the Catholic Church, I could buy charter memberships for a few dozen people.

Oh right…the tone and title of your OP made your point obvious that you weren’t slamming Catholicism.
Errr…right.

Oh well, at least something of worth has been established in this thread.

**Derleth ** has admitted to his longstanding body hair problems.
Now, if we only had a lawnmower…

Given that the Church hierarchy knew about problem priests and shuttled them around from parish to parish without even providing any supervision to prevent further molestation of children, I see no reason to take umbrage against slams at the Church, or at least at its bishops.

Read Our Fathers by David France; Vows of Silence by Jason Berry*; Betrayal:The Crisis in the Catholic Church by the Investigative Staff of the Boston Globe, and see if you don’tend up shaking with rage against the criminal malfeasance of the bishops of the Catholic Church who enabled sexual predators in the priesthood to rob thousands of children of their innocence.

I am reading Our Fathers. In small doses. I can’t take much at once.
However, the OP refers to something that is just bizarre. (That it’s heinous goes without saying)
But I must ask myself what kind of twisted mind comes up with an idea like that?

One who’s had it done to him, most likely. I’d lay odds this guy was abused, himself, growing up.

Yeah, what a piece of work. However this case sounds like the padre in question, having gone off the edge beyond your average Father McPervy abominations, was into a path towards cult leadership.

IN other news, an hour’s drive east of here there’s a ministry where there are at least two families in court because part of the practice in that “temple” was to offer all daughters at ages 13-to-15 to the (70-something) pastor for the “opening of the seal”. And it’s the parents who are co-accused, as they insist that this is right and proper ad they will “offer” them if they get them back.

Specially since he was able to have participants in the events come in as witnesses for his defense, to the effect that this was a “spiritual” experience.

Yikes! The kid was praying while hanging upside down and in pain? What the hell kind of spiritual experience can you have like that?

I mean, sure - Odin gained knowledge of the Runic Alphabet in this manner. But these days we have Sesame Street.

“So, worm, you wanna see God?” — “Yes, mistress.” —WHACK wappity wappity wappity WHACK—

I finally have the answer to the ubitquitous WWJD question…

He’d 86 all the priests.

Fecking bastages.

What amazes me is that he found people stupid enough to submit to this. The victim in the link was 17 at the time. More than old enough to tell the psycho preist to take a flying leap.
