Prince Charles in a loincloth?

From Geographical magazine which is apparently the publication of the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers). May, 2002, Vol 74 No 5

Italics and bolding are mine.

“Brazil -
A giant bronze statue of a winged Prince Charles is to take pride of place in the remote Amazonian town of Palmas. The statue which depicts the Prince of Wales as a superhero with a muscular physique, a full head of hair and a loincloth will be located in a square named in his honor.”

Evokes quite a startling mental image.

No doubt many of you Brit SDMBers will want to attend the dedication. Please post photos.

Ackkk! Now I’ll never get that image out of my head all day! Oh the humanity! Now I’m gonna have to watch a few hours of Monday night smack down just to counterbalance it.

good heavens!!! that sounds frightful. what have the people in palmas done to the rest of the country, that they are being so honoured?

Words (almost) fail me. Well the “Lonely Planet” http://www.lonelyplanet.com/scoop/archive.cfm?DPID=358&region=ame

version claims that the spaniel-eared one

and I can’t say I blame him. It seems that this is done to commemmorate his visit. Very odd.

<shakes head at the strangeness of the world>
