Well, I’m a pharmacist who has extensively studied the opioid issue (having read the ASIPP, VA/DOD, APS/AAPM, ICSI, Canadian, UK, and CDC opioid guidelines, on top of a textbook of neurology, psychopharmacology, and neural science), and no, WhyNot is NOT wrong. I’m going to assume you meant IR (immediate release), not IM (intramuscular), for your oxycodone and 120mg of Oxycodone is roughly 180mg in morphine equivalence, putting you conservatively at over 8-9x the risk of overdose vs those at 0-19mg Morphine equivalence without ANY studies I’ve been able to find showing that higher doses are better. And I can pull cites to back up my assertions.
Given the effects of opioids on Toll-like Receptor 4 in the ventrolateral periaqueductal gray area of the brain, and the rapid development of tolerance thanks to said receptors, I’m going to go with no, there’s no guarantee that if you take as prescribed that they’ll (continue to) work, at least indefinitely.
Opioids are not the panacea people believe them to be and have been linked to development of hyperalgesic states (normally painful stimuli evoke an even greater pain response) and allodynic states (normally non-painful stimuli, such as a light touch, evoke pain instead–think sunburned skin versus non-sunburned skin).
Happy to oblige, and frankly, our medical system would collapse without the dedication and care nurses provide, so much love to you and other nurses as well.

We could get some more docs in here, there are a half dozen or so MD’s on this site. Based on past threads I expect they’ll side with **WhyNot **and JayRx1981 over you.
Honestly, pharmacists frequently have a better understanding of drugs than doctors do, don’t know why you’d doubt JayRx1981’s statements.
