Pro-Life=Fundamentalist Moron

The short version is that they couldn’t afford a child at this time, and his wife apparently has had issues with post-natal depression.
ETA: I tried to PM you the link but apparently you have that option turned off.

Dallas in the early 70’s. Guess where we had to go to get it? Not another county, same county just the black part of it. Turns out it was a good thing - I made some really great friends as a result. Fuck the ‘frozen chosen’ in their syphilitic assholes.

Curtis, I’ve read your holy book and came in to post what Blalron posted. In addition, I believe that you cast a verbal stone at the poster on the other board, a topic that the book of John, chapter 8 has something to say about.

IMO, should you choose to read with an open mind, I believe that you are intelligent enough to learn a few things from this board. Without an open mind, you cease to learn.

Question- is the objection here that Curtis said anything negative about their decision to abort or the way he said it?

Because if it’s the latter, I’ll raise a variation of the Penn Gillette question about witnessing- how badly do you have to hate or at least be extraordinarily uncaring about someone to say nothing if you see them about to commit what you believe is a deeply soul-harming action?

To Curtis- Is it so difficult to realize that you expressed your concern in a very hamhanded & uncompassionate way? Couldn’t you say something like “Hey, I’m sorry. I’m not always the most understanding or emotionally sensitive of people due to my Asperger’s and I just went into my automatic hyper-analytical mode. Yes, I am very deeply pro-life, and your post triggered that mode. I should have thought before I posted and considered your feelings. I am concerned that you two are about to go into something that you’ll regret deeply and will do great harm to you spiritually, and I do hope you find another way to deal with this. But please forgive me for my hamhanded condemning reaction.”

Edited addition- I don’t know if I’d call most unjustified (to me) abortion by the word “murder”, but it’s definitely the stopping of a human life and should be acknowledged as such by all sides. The debate is whether that life has any claims that outweigh the will of the mother.

The problem is, people don’t have souls but do have feelings.

Just because his pee is green and smells funny it doesn’t excuse him from being a dick!

No, it shouldn’t be called the ending of a human life any more than the removal of an appendix is called the ending of a human life.

It’s genetically human & it lives. If it were left alone, barring some natural problem, it would grow into a baby.

No, if left alone it would die. As for being “genetically human”, so is that appendix. So is a human cell in a petri dish. So is someone brain dead, whom we can legally disassemble for parts. Being “genetically human” is not morally important.

  1. Fully agreed. The real Curtis LeMay was one scary mofo.

  2. I think that’s a litlle unfair. I started getting into WW2 history when I was 11 or 12, and while I don’t recall if I specifically knew what LeMay’s role was, I was certainly familiar with your Georgi Zhukovs, Omar Bradleys, and Heinz Guderians.

Well what is left and right, especially with regard to bias, is very much dependent on the point of view of the observer. Despite being a foreigner here, I am quite in lien with how most Swedes seem to think about these things, which means from where I stand the Democrats in the US are right wingers. Just less right wing than the Republicans.

THus from my point of view I find this forum to be right wing, just by the sheer amount of Americans on here.

Regarding Curtis, how’s this thread working out for ya?

You may be right here. There’s been several comments about the nature of precocious 14 year olds here, and, on reflection it does fit with his behaviour.

This is not a theocracy. If you’d like to live in a state where your religious beliefs are reflected in the laws of the state, I suggest you immigrate.

Being a fundy doesn’t make you a moron, being a blowhard who’s trying to impose his own morality on another, at a difficult time, makes you a moron. And no better that Phelps protesting at the funerals of soldiers.

You should be ashamed of yourself, but I’m certain you’re not. You’re just another cafeteria Christian, choosing to ignore the part about not judging others, leaving judgment to God, etc. Calling law abiding persons ‘murderers’, because they didn’t choose as you would have, makes you a grade a jerk. Whatever happen to do unto others? Would you like this fellow to determine what you should do, in such circumstances? Or do you want to choose according to your own beliefs? What’s that? You want to choose? So does he, so shut the fuck up about what you believe until somebody asks you.

You are the very embodiment of what’s wrong with Christian Fundamentalism and why so many are disgusted by it.

Well, that’s arguable*, but either way I’d call it the prevention of a human life, not the stopping.

*that is, if your definition of “leaving something alone” excludes providing it with nutrients and oxygen, and processing its waste.

Abortion is legal. If you have a problem with that, try to get the law changed and good luck.

Other than that, only give your opinion when it’s asked for.

Missed edit: The biggest bug about the Pro-Life Fundamentalist Moron Brigade is their need to tell every pregnant woman in crisis what THEY think SHE should do or not do.

Very well said. I know, I’ve heard all the stuff about people, even Fundies being free to their beliefs. However, they refuse to extend that same respect and courtesy to anyone else.

Someone who goes on a discussion forum which is not an explicit “pro-choice support group” and makes such an announcement is inviting some comment and should expect that not every comment with be automatically affirming. Curtis should have been more sensitive, but he had no obligation to keep his mouth shut.

Does your “only give your opinion when it’s asked for” apply to the atheist/anti-theist threadshitters who try to dump in darn near every religious discussion on the SDMB?

That’s crass, but it really isn’t analogous to intruding on very personal decisions and calling people murderers.

But this wasn’t the place. It wasn’t a debate. It was a guy whose wife had already made up her mind. He wasn’t looking to engage and defend his wife’s decision. He was just venting that it was a bad situation they were in and looking for a few words of support.

If he’d opened up a debating thread and they’d yelled at Curtis, that would be one thing, but this wasn’t a debate. It would be like if someone opened a thread about having lung cancer and someone popped in to say, “Did you smoke? You know you shouldn’t have smoked, right?” Popping into an abortion thread to ask about birth control (and then suggesting the Pill and condoms when the guy already mentioned his wife being on an IUD) is stupid and pointless.
