This is a very odd problem, and I’m wondering if anyone here has a solution or has experienced this. The problem is: I cannot access google.com. I can access images.google.com. I can access maps.google.com. I can access bing.com. I can access any old page I please, except www.google.com. This includes performing any google searches using the chrome search bar, or typing in the google url by hand, or clicking on a link to google.com from bing.com. The problem only occurs when I am at a friend’s house. The problem only occurs when I am logged into my google account. The problem has persisted consistently for over a year, with about a hundred separate data points. Any ideas?
At your friend’s house are you on his machine or one you’ve brought with you? If the former I’d say he has malware.
Have you tried other Google sites like google.com.au ?
No this is using my laptop I take everywhere. Only happens using my friend’s internet. Very weird. I haven’t tried using the foreign google sites. I will the next time I’m over there.
www.google.com.au does work better. One notable difference is that when I go to “www.google.com” it redirects to “https://www.google.com”, which doesn’t happen for the “com.au” address.
