Yes. I had no idea this was an issue.
So, when you want to reply to a post, you click the reply button to get a box to compose your post in. And then when you’re done you click a different reply button…does this feel confusing to anyone else? Can the second “reply” label be renamed submit instead?
It’s similarly weird when you want to start a new thread.
Yes. Two buttons serving two different functions in the same process should not be labeled the same. I like your suggestion for “Submit” on the final “Reply” button.
Also, there are two different kinds of Reply buttons that can appear simultaneously on the page: the Reply button that replies to a post, and the one that replies to the thread.
In my perfect design world, they would have two different labels: maybe “Reply to Post” and “Reply to Thread”. I know that triples the character count so is maybe problematic in that way, but as they stand it’s not really intuitive that they serve pretty different functions.
I agree wholeheartedly with the previous post!
(This issue reminds me a little of the old Tapatalk prompt I got bugged with about once a week: “Tapatalk is a feature that blah blah!” One of the button choices to respond was “OK.” I’d sometimes click that, thinking it meant “OK, that’s nice, let me proceed with my life now, bye.” But noooo…it meant “OK, that’s great, let’s install this bad boy!”)
We tried that on another D-board. At that time, a little over a year ago, it couldn’t be done, at least not without changing the software.
Think of the Reply to Thread button as a Reply to Post button for the OP.
Minor question, can the bot handle anything besides “Roll 2d6”? it failed at “Roll d20”
You need the 1 before d20. Also, I’m not sure if D-bot will do more than one roll per post (or per PM).
Thank you, I play with that
I confirmed, It only gives you back the first Roll but can handle 5d20 or 1d67 or 2d12 as examples.
It also doesn’t take Roll 1d45 + 3d20 or Roll 1d45 & 3d20
On the vBulletin board, I had a bookmark to a page showing all of my subscribed threads, which included any I’d posted to and others I subscribed to without posting. What is the equivalent here?
I think the closest thing is “Unread” in the hamburger menu. It lists threads you are tracking (which normally includes any thread you posted to), but only if they have new posts.
Watched.
Thanks. I’ve been looking around for a couple of minutes but could not find a “watched” page. Where is it?
You will automatically get notifications (on your avatar) for topics that are marked as ‘watching’.
To see a list of watched topics, the only way is to do an advanced search:
Search icon > options > Only return topics/posts… I’m watching
Alternatively you can bookmark the search in you browser, so you can get there quickly:
https://boards.straightdope.com/search?expanded=true&q=in%3Awatching%20order%3Alatest
(That’s what I’ve done.)
You can also bookmark topics (button at the bottom of the page, or press b), and you can easily see a list of bookmarks if you click on your avatar and go to the bookmarks tab.
Thank you. The bookmark is more like my old one, although the avatar thing is probably what I should play with.
Click on the round avatar on the far right side of the page.
Look at the top of the little window. There’s three icons there.
Little bell – notifications
Bookmark – bookmarks
Envelops – messages
Hope this helps.

Having trouble quoting only part of a poster’s post.
Also can’t view posting histories.
Use your mouse to select the part to be quoted. A grey rectangle will form below the selection. Click it, and the quote will form automatically in your reply box.
To see your own posting history, go to Activity on your profile.
To see someone else’s posting history, click on their avatar to get their details, then click on their name. You’ll get to their profile, and you can see their summary and activity.
Or above it.
