Oh, I see. But it’s always below the text in my experience.
Thanks, all.
This just seems like ailurophobia. Or maybe inebriphobia.
For a precious few days, I thought my time had come…
Problem I didn’t see reported yet:
If someone posts a full URL (that isn’t in an info box), the whole URL is always displayed, even if it’s really long. On vBulletin, these would be collapsed if they got too long.
I’ve seen URLs that take up 5 lines here, because people just copy the URL from Google or some other setup that uses a lot of options (parts after the ? in th URL). It would be nice if those would collapse.
I do also believe there may be some URLs that can’t get info boxes–like if they aren’t allowed to be crawled. So telling everyone to always put the URL on a separate line (which normally makes an infobox, if I understand correctly) may not be a solution.
Also, is there any move to fix other formatting issues besides the quote and spoilers? I sometimes see tags that don’t work here.
The infobox also automatically takes the first few lines as the quote; which may not be the part of the article (or whatever) that’s most relevant to the thread, so I often want to quote a different part instead.
You can, however, make the link appear as highlighted text of your choice: highlight desired text; at the top of the reply window, click on the interlinked chains icon; paste the link into the resulting popup and click OK. – same way as on the old boards, except a different symbol is used for the link.
With those, I try deleting as much of the options as possible without breaking the link. For one thing, I don’t want the link to trace back to me.
ok here’s another stupid question - I boogie into CS, and I’m like - um, how do I start a thread?
At the top of the page you should see a button that says “New Topic.” Click that to start a new thread.
Ah, thanks.
(always use screen much smaller, so, good thing for feces and laughter I figured - why not maximize the screen, and voila - tucked way over on the right.)
How do you quote only part of someone’s post when their post is a reply to another post? I’ve highlighted only part of the text, but it doesn’t work and instead quotes both that person’s entire post and also the post they themselves replied to.
Are you highlighting and then clicking on the gray quote symbol that pops up?
Bah humbug - Some posts have the replies to the posts nested, is there a way to format so they are automatically unnested - so I don’t have to click on the arrow to see the responses? My damned chemobrain sometimes makes me so stupid that I don’t see/can’t see/ignore/waffle out and not expand the thread. However you want to explain it, I need to know if I can get it so it doesnlt hide stuff, please?
The replies are still listed below in unthreaded format. The nested replies are duplicates in case you want to read them threaded. You can safely ignore them and not miss anything.
But I like to read them threaded, chemobrain makes it sort of difficult to track sometimes [hell, I have been known to forget what I was saying halfway through a paragraph occasionally] so I want them to present threaded as default =)
Has anybody had an issue with log outs?
I forgot to log out last night and when I came back this evening I was still logged in.
This kind of worries me as the old board would autolog you out after a certain period of inactivity, which I liked since I often forget to log off or simply doze off if its late enough or whatever.
There’s a short-cut for logging out, BTW. Just type ZZ (Capital Z twice) and it logs you out. This is not exactly a Discourse invention. I’ve seen it at other sites too.
The old site never logged me out.
The old board never logged me out automatically. Neither does this one.
