Problem with Chrome and Flash (?)

I have an iMac running 10.6.8. Chrome has been the best browser for me, but in the last couple days it runs REALLY slowly and I keep getting a message saying that Flash has crashed. I’ve tried out FF and Safari–certainly the speed of page loads is better, but I haven’t spent the same number of hours online to know if the Flash crashes are also a problem in those browsers.

Anyone have any ideas? This is the first time I can ever remember having these problems. I assume they are related, but–what do I do?

I’ve checked my connection speed and it’s fine, 20 down and 2 up.

At the risk of sounding patronizing (and I am definitely not trying to), have you restarted Chrome? Often it seems to just need that to finish an update (an update that was loaded ‘occultly’).

I have restarted Chrome as well as the computer.

Bumping my own thread as I am still experiencing the problem. Please help!

Try this link. Its Windows specific but may give you a lead regarding the problem on Mac.

I’m not sure about Macs, but I had the same problem on Windows. You can try clearing out the cache and history. This might give you temporary relief, until the cache fills up again. The thing that fixed it for me was to double my RAM from 4Gig to 8Gig. Since I’ve done that, I’ve had no speed problems with Chrome.

Actually, I remember something else. Go to Chrome://plugins. Look and see if there are 2 plugins for Flash listed. If so, you’ll need to disable one of the them – I’m not sure which. Google it to find which one to disable.

Thank you Little Pig and JHarvey, that led to the solution. I found the exact instructions I needed here:
