I just did a data migration to a new Mac Book Pro with Mountain Lion. I just realized Mac Mail won’t load any Sent items in Mac Mail before I did the migration. It just says “Loading” and the circle thingie just spins. Any idea of how to fix this? I’d hate to think I lost all those messages. Thanks for your help!
Well, I just “rebuilt” the “Sent” mailbox, and all my mail items before the migration disappeared. Does this mean that all those emails were lost in the migration. Shouldn’t they exist as files somewhere on my Mac? Thanks!
Surely someone knows?
What type of email account is it - POP or IMAP?
It is POP.
OK, POP sent mail is stored on your machine.
It should be in Home/Library/Mail/V2/POP-<name of your pop account>/Sent Messages
Look in there and see what you see.
You may need to choose “Go to folder” from the Go menu in Finder, and then put in “~/Library” to get to the Library folder.
I looked there, but it seems only the messages sent since the migration are in there. Could the migration have overwritten the Sent folder?
I suppose it’s posible, but I’ve never seen that happen.
When you say “migration,” do you mean from another machine? If so, is the mail still on that machine?
ETA: I don’t suppose you have backups (I don’t know why I even ask…).
I had them wipe the other machine clean to give it to a friend.
I back up my really important data but had not been backing up my Sent email. I need to start using Time Machine for real. I can live without the Sent email, but I want to get it in order if I can.
Well, I’d poke around in the /Library/Mail directory and see if you can find anything…
Thanks. I think I might also visit the Genius Bar.
