So I have a Samsung SyncMaster 955DF. I seem to be having a problem with the settings. You know the on screen settings for Pin Cusion and making it bigger and smaller and position etc… Anyways I’m not near anything magnetic and I had the same problem with this monitor at my old house. Not sure how to explain this easily but basically it just can’t be set quite right. If you get one side right, the other side is screwed up. Right now on my right side the top is ok but the bottom is screwed up and if I fix it (which I can’t) something else will be screwed up. I think what I’m looking for is someone else with the same problem (and maybe the same monitor) and what they did.
I have a different monitor (ViewSonic) but had the same problem for a long time. Eventually I fixed it by downloading this utility, which will display test patterns on your screen while you adjust the settings. Once I had all the test patterns looking right, my monitor was crystal clear and perfect.
I have a Samsung SyncMaster 950p and I can never get it quite perfect. But I can get it close enough where it really doesn’t bother me much. Maybe that is the tradeoff for getting a 19" monitor so cheap.
Mine is close enough that it doesn’t really bother me either, except when I have nothing better to do then be annoyed with it.
Darren: Does that utility change the on screen controls or just windows settings?
Joey - the utility doesn’t change anything. It just displays some test pages - e.g. horizontal lines, vertical lines, blue screen - it’s up to you to tinker with your monitor’s controls until the test pages look right. I found it very easy to set up my monitor perfectly using these screens. I emphasize that I had exactly the same problems you describe - I could get it right in one spot but only at the expense of another spot - like pushing down bumps in wallpaper!
