Problem with Norton Antivirus 2001 and Windows XP

Before I begin let me just state upfront that I now know that Norton 2001 is not compatible with XP.

I just got a new computer about 2 weeks ago (with XP) and stupidly installed Norton 2001 on it. By upgrading, it actually works and scans for viruses just like it should. However, the computer is now freezing periodically and will not shut down properly. If the power is cut, it has trouble re-booting properly. Could this problem be due to the incompatibility between Norton and XP? I am going to uninstall Norton when I get home today; does anyone think that may fix the problem? Or have I corrupted the OS, neccessitating a re-install of XP?

Many thanks,

MM

It’s probably Norton. Uninstall it and see if the problem goes away. I’ve had my share of trouble with old unstable programs, and none of them have caused any permanent harm to XP, so I wouldn’t worry.
