I’ve just upgraded to the latest edition of iTunes, and after the upgrade I’m unable to connect to the Music Store. I am still able to access all other ‘Net related applications (surf, check email, etc.), so the error message “Make sure your network connection is active” is not applicable. I looked in iTunes’ Preferences and Options and was unable to find a setting or anything that had to do with connections to the 'Net. Is there a special permission that needs to be granted to the program somewhere in Windows?
I’m running XP Pro, with a Linksys Wireless card & router. As I said, no other applications which use the 'Net have any issues. Any and all help would be appreciated.
Are you using any intermediate software between iTunes and the Internet, like a firewall or a proxy server?
I had problems between iTunes and the Proxomitron, which is a proxy server I run on my computer. All my Internet traffic goes through the Proxomitron, which filters out pop-ups, background music, blink tags, etc. It also causes some problems occasionally, like with iTunes. When I connect to the iTMS, I have to bypass it temporarily.
If it’s not that, have you checked your XP built-in firewall settings? Go to the Network Connections control panel and open the properties sheet for your adapter. Check on the Advanced tab and see if the Internet Connection Firewall is on. Flip it off and see if that helps.
I’m kinda stabbing in the dark here, but both of these fixed my problem.
I believe if you check the built-in help for iTunes, it will tell you what ports you need to open in your Firewall for proper operation. Just so you don’t have to turn off the entire firewall before you go shopping, natch.
