Is anyone else having this problem? When I check the SDMB after being away for long enough that I know there should be threads with unread posts on the second page of a forum - the second page does not show that. That is to say, it shows all threads non-bolded, and without the “Go to first unread” arrow icon in front of them. This has only happened since the server upgrade, and it has happened consistently since then.
I’m reading the Dope with Opera 9.51 on Windows XP, if that makes any difference.
It’s a little inconvenient when I can’t skip right to the first unread post in a thread I am following, particularly when there happen to be quite a few of those on the second page. Otherwise I am very happy with the server upgrade!
Yes, this is happening to me too. It also happens when I visit any thread, and when I come back to the message listing, all the other threads are marked as read.
Yeah, I’ve seen the same problem, and that’s even after opening threads on the first page in a new tab.
I am hoping that this is temporary while Jerry continues to optimize the configuration. I recall reading that the entire read/not read thing is intentionally not working properly because it was bringing board performance to a complete stall, but if I’m incorrect, I’m sure I’ll be told that, too.
The other “pages” don’t show so much – it’s how Jerry had to hack the system to get functionality. Multiple pages show but don’t always display. Just another something we’ll have to put up with until Jerry’s able to get things fixed. Please bear with us, we’re going to have quite a bit of this kind of thing as we get towards betterment.
This might be a consequence of the whole “view unread posts” timer set to zero that I’ve been harping incessantly about in other threads…
You click on the forum link, get the first page up, the timer/cookie/whatever resets, and the next link you click – thread or next page – everything is already marked as read.
Yes, me too. I didn’t start a thread, because I though that maybe, coincidentally, I happened to be away just long enough that 50 threads had been posted to, but no more…
