We all have seen commercials for things and have thought to ourselves “I wonder if that really works”. Having bought crap through the mail and from infomercials, I know I appreciate reviews of products before I spend my money.
So here is a review of an advertised product I purchased recently, and my humble opinions of it.
You may have seen the commercial for a product called “Pet Trainer”. The ad shows folks pointing a remote control sized device at barking or jumping dogs and cats scratching at furniture. The television commercial shows the animal snapping to attention and immediatly ceasing the improper behavior. The ad touts that it is a useful tool to condition animals out of bad behavior, and is human because it only uses sound waves. Well, I had a silent dog whistle when I was a kid (remember the ones that were advertised in comic books?) and I tried it on about 50 dogs and it didn’t do squat. So I was skeptical of this “Pet Trainer” gizmo. But it was only $19, and I’m trying to train my pets not to go on our good couch, so I ordered it.
It arrived in 6 days. Not bad. It is exactly the same size as a t.v. remote, and uses a 9 volt battery. The instructions are very easy & quick to read. When you press the button, you can’t hear anything. Nothing. If you put it directly up to your ear you can hear a very faint, high pitched buzz, but in normal use it is soundless. At least to humans.
First test: Riff Raff (English Bulldog) trotts into the living room and heads for the couch. As he’s about to pounce up onto the couch, I push the “Pet Trainers” button. Riff jolts off the couch like he’s been electricly shocked. He looks at me as if to say, “What in hell was that?”. He attempts to jump on the couch again. I activate the device again. Riff again jumps off the couch. Gives me a puzzled look, and walks away. That was 3 weeks ago. He hasn’t been on the couch since.
Test 2: Bunn E. (Half Siamese, Half British short hair) is sitting on the couch when I came home from work. I retrive the Pet Trainer and activate it. Bunn E jumps up in the air, claws sticking into the ceiling. I have to pull him down. (Okay, not quite, but almost). He climbs back onto couch, we repeat. Bunn E hasn’t been on the couch in 2 weeks.
Test 3: Napoleon (Russian Blue cat, 24 pounds) flops his fat blob of a carcus up onto the couch. I activate pet trainer. Poly jerks his head to look where the sound is coming from, but doesn’t move. I continue to activate the device, and he continues to wildly jerk his head to look at it, but he refuses to move. He gives a look as if to say “Hey, Bietz! I’m too fat to take dives off a couch. Keep pushing the button. I’m not leaving”.
Oh, well, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad. Napoleon is to fat to climb up on the couch much anyway. He usually can’t make it up. Overall, I give this product an A+ ! All the other methods I used failed to keep my other 2 pets off the couch, but Pet Trainer worked 100%!
I’m stunned! A t.v. product actually works as advertised!
In My Humble Opinion, it’s a great product. If you have used this device, leave your opinion of it.
