Products You Recently Tried, Had High Expectations For, And (Dis)liked

Sobriety. Highly overrated. Disappointed and can’t recommend. I anticipate similar results with divorce and single life.

Comedian Norm Macdonald discusses alcoholism in one of my all-time favourite comedy bits.

I could add fruit to soda water to bring out the flavour too. Instead, I expect it to taste a little bit like the flavour it advertises without undue additions. Maybe there was once fruit nearby, or it spent some time in the shadow of a tree or it was intended for use in homeopathy and is actually exceptionally strong. Perhaps it cures scrofula. There are plenty of flavoured fizzy waters I like. This brand is a one off for me.

La Croix (Lime, Orange, Cherry/Lime and Lemon) is great. La Croix Limoncello is terrible.

Bubly is nasty.

@MindsEye_Watering The limoncello gives me terrible reflux. I enjoy the other flavors for the most part.

I think Lacroix tastes okay, as does the Costco brand and many others.

Oh god, yes, this! I tried three different flavors. All nasty.

On a more positive note: A while back, I was diagnosed with extreme dust mite allergy. My allergist said I needed a new vacuum cleaner. So I bought a Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal + Allergy. Yes, it was expensive. But it picks up everything, including ground in cat hair that my previous vacuum cleaner just ignored. And I assume it’s picking up dust mites (or more specifically their poop), because my allergies are better. And there’s no bag, no filter to clean, and it doesn’t lose power when it’s filling up. It’s amazing how much crap it’s picked up that my previous Dyson missed.

As I said, maybe it could cure scrofula. It has so little flavour gomeopathy must be at work somehow.

S’more Oreos - tried them this weekend. They were pretty bland. But then I think the same thing when I eat an actual s’more. They never live up to the hype. There’s never enough chocolaty-ness. And graham crackers have changed. They seem pretty bland these days too.

I also tried sobriety, but found I was allergic.

Carolina Nut Company by any chance? The farm market near us has all their flavors, with sriracha-ranch my current favorite. They are a bit pricey, so they haven’t sold well. I’ve been getting them for wholesale price which isn’t too bad.

Should you ever have the opportunity to try them again, put the bottom graham cracker, with the chocolate on it, near the fire while the marshmallow is toasting. That way, the chocolate will be warm and melted before final assembly.

I am a master marshmallow toaster. My s’mores are awesome, but they take time.

My parents had some Schweppes Bitter Lemon that they didn’t think they had to hide from us kids, because we wouldn’t like it. I accepted the challenge. It was my favorite soft drink for years.

I checked out their site and I like the nutritional aspect of the Vite ramen. But I grew up on the cheapo 5-for-a-buck ramen and I’ve had ‘better’ ramen noodles I didn’t like as much. How does the flavor of the noodles compare to Maruchan?

I saw these ads on line for wood-splitting drill bits, shaped like metal cones. They appear to do a great job of splitting wood. I’ve been splitting wood out back with wedges (a good way to work off frustrations and excess energy), so this looked like a good idea

So i sent for such a thing. Tried it out. I managed to drill cone-shaped holes in my wood, but didn’t split any – even the driest, most likely to split wood.

My expereience was more like this guy’s

It seems like for every new flavor of Doritos that comes out, I only like about 10% of them. However, I’ll still happily eat the original flavor.

I love ‘Ichiban’ beef flavored noodles. During the pandemic it has sometimes been hard to find, so I tried other brands like ‘Mr. Noodles’, and they aren’t even remotely close to the tasty goodness that is Sapporo Ichiban. Some of them were so awful I didn’t finish the bowl. I tried some ‘lemongrass’ Thai noodles, and they were almost completely tasteless. Ichiban for the win.

I’m diabetic and can’t have sugared drinks, but I’m also extremely sensitive to the aftertaste of sugar alternatives so it’s hard to find something to drink. I tried Bubly, and thought it was awful. The only two completely non-sweetened drinks I like are Perrier lime or Montpelier lime. I think the difference is fhat they seem to be more highly carbonated, so they have a bit of bite to them. Bubly just tastes like lightly flavored water.

I’m open to suggestions for other zero-sugar drinks that have no artificial sweeteners.

Oh man, I tried that brand and couldn’t even finish a can. So nasty. Maybe I got a bum can but wow was it awful, and I’m not a picky drinker. Definitely more flavor than a lacroix, but none of it good.

The same is true for triscuits. But there are a number of extra-spicy Doritos which are great, and I wish they still made the habanero ones.

I really can’t say, since I’ve never eaten them without additional ingredients and seasonings. But if you’re used to Maruchan you might miss all the sodium. Of course you can always add your own.

I meant the taste of the noodles themselves, not the flavor packet. And do they have the same springy texture?

Yep. I also hated Propel. I like diet drinks in general. but that stuff has a nasty aftertaste

That is not bad to me.

Try Bundaberg Lemon-Iime bitters. Very refreshingly not sweet.
