Professions not represented on the Dope?

Loach is a cop.

Lucy in Disguise. There are other Dopers who have driven big trucks as well and Sunspace is correct; I’m one of them. (But I can’t think of the others right now.) But I got out of trucking some years ago. Still remember it though, and I do recall covering a question or two for Lucy in the “Ask the Trucker” thread.

There used to be a puzzle editor, but she changed jobs about a year ago.

Check my trunk.

Any undertakers/morticians/funeral directors? I would be very interested in an Ask The thread from one of those.

I know there are farmers somewhere on the boards, and I grew up on a farm/live there during the summer, so I’ve been bitten by my fair share of calves.

I knew a girl who did corpse hair-dos, but she doesn’t hang out here.

I was a clown for a little while.

You got better?

I do know one part-time professional for whom ornamental knot-tying is a significant portion of his workday - he’s a maritime historian, and teaches sailors’ knots to his students.

Er, but he doesn’t post here, so never mind.

Fluffers?

That is neat to know. I always wanted to spend the time to make one of those knot boards you see at Captain D’s or Long John Silver’s, but just never did it.

Now she’s what, a garden-magazine editor? That’s still offbeat enough.

So a good counter question is: What highly offbeat professions are represented on the Dope?

Well, we have established that we have at least two bassonists.

Anyone remember aha, the aging rock star?

I’m on the town council. But I would never want to be mayor.

I love the people of varied experience, and the eldars  giving advice to the young folks…

You don’t have to be a historian to know those knots. My dad and my husband are both riggers in the stage industry - they KNOW their knots!

I write obituaries, and I’m pretty sure there’s at least one other person here who has done it before, but I can’t remember who. As for the mortician/funeral director question, we’re bound to have one because there’s literally a ton of those floating around. Seriously, there’s three mortuaries/crematories in my town, and about ten funeral directors at each one. It’s ridiculous.

Professions I’d like to hear more about on the Dope: Criminal mastermind, safe cracker, or anyone who works with fireworks.

There’s also a girl who grew up on a dairy farm; she had an "Ask The … " thread a while back.

I’m in marketing; a yawner. I used to be a reporter (who has written tons of obits, Tasha!), but that’s not particularly unique here either.

When I first got into scuba diving, I had fantasies for a month or so about becoming a dive instructor, and working at Club Med on the scuba team - and with a side role as the fireworks technician. Pity that I never did go get pyrotechnician training.

How offbeat would you consider polymer clay artist/jewelry designer? :stuck_out_tongue:
