There’s this old cartoon I saw somewhere, at least ten years ago, intended to emphasize the importance of getting the requirements reasonably straight before you start to program something.
There’s one person sitting at a terminal, and the second person is dashing out of the room saying, “You start coding; I’ll go find out what the users want.”
Has anyone else seen this, and know where I can find it online?
Or any links to cartoons about programmers?
There’s the always brilliant xkcd, which is about a lot more than just programming. This one pretty much describes my job.
I don’t have a link, because this is from many years ago (I think a co-worker had it posted in his cubicle) but there’s one where the boss comes running out of his office and yells “The network is down! Somebody get me a young man with a ponytail and earring!”
Go ask Jim over there by the window…it’s posted on his wall. I think it’s a 6th generation photocopy. His version shows an office of 4 programmers and the Project Manager going upstairs saying just that. He’s had it for at least 10 years.
There’s another one about requirements and the views of a tire swing on a tree. I think there were 12 interpretations of the requirements.
Well, that wasn’t very helpful…but at least you know you didn’t imagine it…
Oh man, my Dad brought that one home from the defense plant he worked at-- 40 years ago! Amazing that is still circulating.
ETA – Found it!!
