Project Runway 13

Surprised no-one else started a thread.

Well, since my memory is crap I can’t remember what I thought of all 15 contestants, I’ll just mention three. Designer’s names here

  1. The wrong person went home. In my opinion, and apparently the live voting agreed with me, the worse dress was made by Sandhya. I liked nothing about it. The print, the dye job, the fringe/fray/whatever on the bottom and ends of the sleeves. I thought she should go home.

  2. I thought Mitchell’s outfit was fine. He should have been safe.

  3. I thought Kini should have been in the top 3.

Oh, and I didn’t get the criticism of one of the dresses being too wearable. That’s a bad thing?

Either Mitchell or Sandhya should have gone home. They were both fugly as hell. I have no idea what the judges were smoking to give her the win, and apparently all (save one) of the other designers and most of the viewing audience agrees with me. I loved when the three top designers walked back into the waiting room afterward, and when Char & the other one said they were safe, all the other designers looked around in confusion since of course it wasn’t possible that Sandhya won… Awkward.

I was a bit disappointed that the Muslim designer didn’t make it onto the show, just because I wanted to see what kind of debacles would happen when she gave every garment long sleeves and floor length material. That said her stuff was terribly boring and not even that flattering, so meh.

German guy is interesting. I want to see more of him.

I agree.

I wanted Mitchell gone, partly for the outfit, but mostly for just being annoying. I can’t really argue though with Jefferson and those shorts.

During the Road to the Runway show, I thought there should be a drinking game for every time “edge” or “edgy” was used, but then you’d have to have a dozen people taking turns drinking, and they’d still all be blitz by the end.

How did I miss that the show started??? I figured late August/early September. Must catch the rerun.

German guy had the best outfit. I think he and Heidi are going to have some fun together this season.

I would have sent Mitchell home. His outfit was poorly constructed and ugly – what Boy George would wear to the beach.

I didn’t particularly like the winning outfit from Indian Lady but I laughed at the win because people were being so bitchy behind her back.

The losing outfit was bad but the guy made it worse by not appearing to understand the problem with it.

I like black Detroit lady so far. She could be another Korto with her use of bright prints. Pockets are on my personal list of stuff we women really need.

I just watched the episode at the Lifetime website (note: website still sucks).

I didn’t especially like the winning dress–funny how the judges didn’t mention that it was too tight–but I give her credit for dying the print. She has a very different point of view, very different, and I’m looking forward to seeing that. She uses color a lot which I like but I’ll bet that in the end, her use of embellishments will trip her up.

The obnoxious guy from Miami, him they should have sent home immediately, instead of the Muslim designer. I just looked at her pre-Runway designs and she’s the only one I’ve seen who looks like she’s a professional. Not sure how far she would’ve gone in the show but I also would’ve been interested in seeing her adapt to the challenges.

Miami guy, a horrible personality and incompetent as well. His outfit looked cheap. He’s obviously supposed to be Josh Lite. Ugh. Of the bottom two, I was curious to see what the black guy would do next. I have no interest in seeing what Josh Lite can produce.

Did not get the [mock] outrage over Nervous Wreck’s design. So the pants were a bit low cut. We’ve seen much more than that on the runway with barely a mention. She should’ve been in the middle.

The Hawaiian guy’s dress was totally pedestrian and should have been in the bottom 3 for being boring.

The reactions from the Safe designers as the Top and Bottom ones came backstage was enlightening. The Safe designers really miss out by not being critiqued. They may think they lucked out with a pass but they’re not hearing what the judges are looking for and that’s a real drawback.

I love this show! I have watched all previous seasons and variations (All Stars and the Tim Gunn one.) I bought the itunes season pass!
I just finished watching.
This season I decided to grade them before I heard what the judges thought. I agree that Mitchell should have been in the bottom; the outfit was too junior (I said it on my score sheet before I heard Nina :D.) I thought Jefferson should be in the bottom because of the poor fit of the shorts; but he should have stayed and Mitchell should have gone home. I was way off on Angela. I thought her outfit was cool (not that I would wear it.)

I am amazed at how they went on and on about the freak’n circle skirt (oh wow and with pockets:rolleyes:) BFD. I can sew a circle skirt with pockets and without a pattern. All she did was make a passable top and I am glad she did not win. Many of the designs that were safe looked like other designers knockoffs.

I thought K. Guico outfit was gorgeous but I guess too beachy for Spring.

The best thing about Sandhya’s win was it pissed off Korina who is apparently this season’s bitch.

Other ones I really liked: Alexander Knox’s swing dress and Sean Kelly’s dress, except the back split was too high.

Others ones I really disliked: Emily Payne her design I have named “Xena Meets the Quilting Circle” and K. Zamora (aloha) too retro 70’s.

OK I’m done:D

Oh, and while I think of it, no mention of Michael Kors. I wonder if he wanted to stop so they phased him out. Last season he just did some guest appearances and now this season, nothing.

TLo’s back to blogging the show:

Crap – same here. I can’t tell for sure but I hope it will rerun at 8 next Thursday…

Good, so I’m not the only one who doesn’t remember her.

You can watch the complete Episode 1 on mylifetime.com, and there’re no commercials!

Is it just me, or does Carrie look like anime?

In the Road to the Runway pre-show, she indicates it is deliberately after an anime character she found. I find it pretentious and annoying. You can only get away with that kind of look if you are twelve and Japanese. She does make me giggle a bit with that last name. I wonder if she’s related to Irina Slutskaya, the Russian figure skater.

Carrie is the one with short blue hair? I liked her dress, it looked well-made and showed some advanced skills. She strikes me as a one-dress-wonder though.

Who is the designer that Tim Gunn said had the potential of Christian Sirano? I must have read it over at TLo. It was a guy, that’s all I remember.

^ LONG blue hair

Alexander Knox. I liked what he did, but he was just safe.

Sh*t, really? His swing dress was just okay. I was hoping it was the guy that did the below-knee dress with the color blocking. I didn’t like the proportions but it had potential.

Now that I’ve looked at his portfolio: black, black, more black and YOW! FEATHERS! Not seeing anything intriguing and if he defaults to black whenever possible, we won’t be able to see it on tv either.

Well the judges continue to surprise me. Of course I have no idea who is who yet in terms of the designer but clearly the wrong person won and the wrong one went home.

It bugs me that they didn’t care at all about decent finishing…though I suppose the counter argument, as its been said before: this isn’t Project Seamstress.

The montage of the previews give me hope that this season won’t be another one of boring challenges that amount to “Now make a dress…in blue! Now make one…in black!” The best of PR is when they are challenged to do something unusual, even like that ridiculous Chippendales challenge a season or two.

But no matter how much Project Runway uses and abuses me I’m here watching it every season.
