Project Runway-March 18, 2010-Spoilers After Airing Only

I figured I’d start it early.

Let’s do speculation before it airs. After it airs (10 PM, EDST), spoil away.
So I think we’re at the point where it gets more interesting. 8 designers left! We’ve cleared out most of the cannon fodder and we’re down to some real contendahs.

Here’s what I’m thinking about how it’s going to play out:

Amy: When she’s good, she’s very good. When she’s bad, she’s horrid. With the contest getting tighter, she’s not going to survive many more missteps.

Anthony: He consistently makes pretty dresses. But he’s nowhere near versatile enough for the top 3. Unless he really screws up, I imagine he’s in for the next few weeks because someone else will screw up worse.

Emilio: My prediction for the next auf. That string bikini sealed his fate. Even if he survives today, he’ll be out soon. I hope so, 'cause I don’t want to see his sour puss on the screen any more.

Jay: Definitely top 3 and possibly the win. His work ranges from good to great. He repeats elements and silhouettes too much, but the results are lovely. Has he had any major screw-ups?

Jonathan: He’s not consistently strong enough. I don’t think he’ll make top 3.

Maya: Last week’s judging was harsh on her, even though she was in the top. She’s very talented, but her inexperience will keep her out of the top 3.

Mila: The judges are bored. So am I. I somehow think she’ll squeak into the top 3 but has little chance at an actual win.

Seth Aaron: Definitely top 3 and my call to win the whole shebang.
So, what do you all think?

I’m watching it now. I agree that Jay and Seth Aaron will be in the top three. I don’t want to decide yet about the other top three person. I like Anthonys’ designs and I don’t like Milas at all.

I think that I just don’t like Mila. I finally realized who she reminds me of.

I missed it last night, fell a frick asleep right before the runway show due to the unlimited airing of commercials. WOke up to see a few designers standing on stage, maybe the winners, then another commercial and it was lights out. Ithink they’ll replay it sometime today?

Anyway, hope Amy and Jonathan? were able to pull it off. Was hoping to see some drama from Anthony and maya, but I have no idea who was in or out.

I assume you want to be spoiled, or you wouldn’t be here. If you don’t, stop reading this.

Emilio and Seth Aaron got a double-win. I kind of wonder if Seth Aaron would have been the sole winner if it wasn’t so clear that they worked so well as a team as his result was so much better. Emilio’s was nice, but blah. But it was clear that Emilio made significant contributions to Seth Aaron’s design. They’re a shoo-in for “best couple” in the TLo awards for this week. But Emilio is still a total ass.

Amy and Jonathan were not able to pull it off. Understandably, Amy was aufed. As Cerri said in the Model show “That dress made my arse look ginormous!” Frankly, I was shocked that their entry was as bad as it was. And Holly, again, was sent on the runway looking perilously exposed.

Amy is very imaginative and creative, and her ideas are unique. I think she has potential for future success, but she’d need to have a full-time partner who can bring her down to earth. Hell, if I were a designer who consistently turned out clothes that were too “wearable,” I’d be on the phone with her right now.

I thought Jay and Mila looked like real jerks, bringing their conflict on the runway. Even if they hated each other, they should have pretended they didn’t. Kind of reminds me of when my freshman year roommate. We pretty much despised each other and I moved out after a semester. Then we pledged the same sorority sophomore year. So we sat down together and agreed that regardless of our past history, we were stuck together, and that from then on we would get along. And we did. We were never the best of friends, of course, but we built a good “working relationship.” Everyone knew about our past history, but they knew that we had made up, so we spared everybody some discomfort and looked like bigger people because of it. Jay and Mila didn’t do that, and not only did they look like assholes, but it showed in their work. Mila is WAY old enough to know better.

As far as the models go–Holly proved the old adage that no good deed goes unpunished. She was aufed.

And can I just say that Brandise kicks ass as a model. I’m always amazed at the transformation that some of the women go through when they switch between their everyday looks and their “model” looks. It’s particularly striking with Brandise. And it’s not like she’s pretty on the runway either. She’s just a great runway model.

Jay got lucky. I thought his clothes were uglier and more poorly fitting than Amy’s, but I guess he has a stronger history. I think he’s won in the past, whereas Amy produced fish pants.

That orange smock was pretty bad. It looked like something Betty Draper would wear on a morning when she had a hangover.

Good thing I am not a coffee drinker - that would have been a snarf!

I agree with you assessments of all the designers in your OP, except I’m not as down on Emilio as others here. Well, ok, I did not like how he handled the hardware bikini fiasco, but I think he has some talent. Not enough for top 3 tho.

Anthony bugs the crap out of me, but that is nothing to do with his talent. I just hate his pudgy face and the way he talks. I can hardly stand to look at him. Which I know is not reasonable, because he seems like a semi-nice person.

Wow that’s a perfect description of it. I can easily see her wearing that.

I really loved Seth Aaron’s look. I think he’s definitely going to be in the final three, but I have mixed feelings about everybody else. Emilio could make it, but as we saw with his pink bikini, when he falls apart, he really falls apart. He’s unpredictable. I think Jay is very talented and can hang on. I’d love to see Anthony make it to the final three because I’m sure he’d have a fabulous line to show at Bryant Park. I just want Mila to go home. She’s going to keep her color blocking and one day Nina and Heidi are going to have enough–I hope.

I didn’t think they were bad, at all. They didn’t, for instance, blame each other for being in the bottom which we’ve seen before from other designers and they weren’t overtly hostile while working together which we’ve also seen before (Jesse to Ping for ex.). The fact that they didn’t get along however did show because of the lack of cohesion in their outfits.

As for their clothes, Jay’s jodhpurs were unattractive and the tank was really poorly made. Mila’s was actually pretty nice but putting red tights on your model doesn’t mean breaking out of the box. I would really like to see something other than black and white color blocking from her.

I felt bad for Amy. I think she’s got a lot of talent but designing peach maternity wear after what she did last week made her deserve the auf. I didn’t like Jonathan’s dress either. There aren’t too many people who can pull that color off and his model looked like she had pointy nipples.

Out of all the outfits, I really liked Maya’s the best. Loved the jacket and the red slits in the skirt. Anthony’s was all right. I wasn’t as thrilled by the origami dragon as the judges were.

Emilio’s dress was okay but I thought it looked poorly made. And while I usually love Seth Aaron, I thought this was just meh. I think Nina is right, his stuff is sometimes too busy. I also think that if the judges knock Maya for copying from other designers then they should also call out Seth Aaron’s Viviennne Westwood fetish.

I didn’t like the Chinatown dresses. Or any of them for that matter. I liked Mila’s outfit though agree Jay’s sucked.

I didn’t think they brought their conflict onto the runway. They said they worked professionally which they did–they didn’t like each other but there was no drama at least.

I want to like Anthony. I do like Anthony. But referring to oneself in the third person just drives me insane!

As for the clothes, the tank top (which I thought when I heard tank top, “that’ll only take 5 minutes to whip up”) was horrendous. The pants were fugly. The peach monstrosity was just ugly in a '80’s kind of way (this isn’t “The Breakfast Club”) and the night look was too revealing. Or maybe that wasn’t flesh under the dress. Either way, it didn’t float my boat. I thought the corrugated look on hte Chinatown dress was sort of cool, much better than floreetes, but the day look didn’t do anything for me.

As for the winning looks, I thought the day look captured urban funky sophistication (although I’m about as far from urban, funky, or sophisticated as you can possibly get). The night look was cool, but didn’t do as much for me.

They rerun the prior week’s right before the new show, so just tune in an hour early and you’ll see it.

I think you can also watch online at the Lifetime website.

Also, is it just me or did the Harlem day look seem a lot like Kenley’s horrible hip hop look?
