Just getting the thread started ahead of time. I hope Seth Aaron wins, but I’m scared it’s going to be Emilio.
Go Seth Aaron! LOVED his stuff. Emilio’s was a little too “In Living Color” for me. That, and no person responsible for his pink washer bikini debacle should EVER be allowed to win shit.
<insert happy dance here>
More comments tomorrow when I’m not tired.
I’m glad Seth Aaron won. Emilio is such an egotistical ass that I really enjoyed the look of disbelief on his face when he lost. He really is a piece of work. His collection looked pretty good, though. I’m not convinced that the judges’ final decision wasn’t at least a little bit swayed by their dislike of Emilio as a person.
The reunion show is not to be missed! Lots of catty remarks flying about. The worst came from Jay towards my lovely TV crush, Cerrie. He really made himself look bad there. There were a fair amount of apologies offered, too, and some of them even sounded genuine. And the teasers made it look like there was going to be some dramatic reveal of the “real” reason Mya withdrew from the competition. But when asked about it, she just repeated the exact same reason she had given earlier.
I liked Emilio’s runway collection quite a bit and favored him to win. Not really feeling Seth Aaron’s work and was surprised that he was chosen as the winner. Mila’s was the strongest, most cohesive runway showing… thought it would be between she and Emilio for sure. Ah well.
I don’t understand how you could single out just one guy (Emilio) after watching the reunion segment. I thought it was a given that people in fashion are all assholes driven by ego, and I find your judgment of this television stranger quite ponderous… surely personality has nothing to do with how you rate someone’s work?
Ponderous? Okaaaaay. Emilio was an egotistical jerk throughout the season. He even dissed Tim, for God’s sake. You don’t get to do that and get away with it. And of course his personality has everything to do with how people rate his work…exactly the way these things work in the real world, too. My dislike of him almost certainly has to do with the following, but so be it: His signature fabric was snot-faced ugly. It stunk up the place.
I liked Mila’s collection best, but am happy enough with Seth Aaron’s win. He showed creativity throughout the season.
Jay’s remark to Cerri was completely uncalled-for. Ouch.
I guess my point is that in fashion people are, by and large, egotistical jerks, and that’s been on full display ever since the show began - if exaggerated due to the cameras and the nature of the ambitious amateur. Emilio was no more a jerk than others (Santino, Cristian Siriano, Jay McCarroll, and more) who’ve done well and won, too. If the judges couldn’t handle Emilio’s bark every once in a while, there wouldn’t be a show.
What’s truly ponderous is just how easily one can come to a judgment conclusion about a television stranger, though. Why does it even matter?
Well, I mentioned Jay as well. But the fact is that–as Brynda points out–Emilio has been shown throughout the season to have a huge superiority complex. Also, since he made it all the way to the finale, we got to see a lot more of him than some of the other designers. So he has had more chances to reveal to us what an ass he is. Have you been watching for the past few months, or did you just tune in for the finale?
Personality has almost everything to do with how I judge a contestant on a television reality show. Seth Aaron doesn’t come across as an ego-driven asshole. He appears to have a healthy confidence in himself, but also the ability to accept criticism gracefully. If I were in the fashion business and had to make a choice between two talented designers to work with, I’d probably avoid the one who acts like an asshole.
Ponder away.
Now that you’ve said that, I can’t unsee it. Just like, when Mila called Seth Aaron’s work ‘high glamour Hot Topic’, I couldn’t unsee it.
I was rooting for Emilio. I don’t have a problem with big egos, as much as I have a problem with hypocrites…those contestants that accused him of nastiness, when they were all very nasty in their own ways. Seth Aarron thought it would be fun in the Models of The Runway show to vote on who was the worst designer. He tossed a napkin on his head and said, “Here! A hat!”, mocking Ping. As everyone laughed at Ping, Emilio tried to explain that Ping is an artist.
What Jay said to Cerrie was inexcusable, but I am gonna go ahead and try to understand it, anyways. She insulted his designs. His designs are his talent/work/art. He insulted her looks. As a model, her looks are her talent/work/art. She really shouldn’t dish it if she can’t take it. But she actually did seem to take it quite well. And again, what he did made me flinch.
Seth Aaron’s collection was interesting and fun. That red and black dress was great. Good job.
I like Tim. But I won’t hold it against Emilio for insulting him. As Anthony said, “Tim, you wore us out!” Tim can unleash it in those blogs, so he can sure take it. But, yeah. Gotta love Tim.
So glad Emilio didn’t win. He was such an annoying pompous ass the whole series and I thought his collection was butt ugly. The colors he chose were horrible. That print is an eyesore and the pea soup green jacket is a color that should have never seen the light of day. Plus he’s the one who should have been voted out for that pink bikini nightmare earlier in the show.
Seth Aaron deserved the win, though Mila’s final collection was really nice as well.
I actually liked Emilio’s final collection the best, but must agree with Eyebrows. He should have been sent packing after that disgusting bikini. So, yeah, I guess the right one won, because Mila’s collection was IMHO mostly ugly and boring at the same time.
Geeeeeez. I just watch the reunion show, and Jay should be slapped for his bitchy little comment. I saw it referenced here, so I knew it was ugly…and it was. For those who may have missed it, they showed Cerrie’s criticism of Jay’s design esthetic, saying he was very “Miami or LA” and she could see lots of tanned blonds wearing his clothes. After some polite back and forth where Cerrie stood by her comments (emphasizing his look is not appealing to her), he said “Right, and that’s why I don’t hire models with bad teeth and thick legs.” WTF?
Good thing about saying shit at a reunion show is you’re immediately called on it. What was nice is no one was all “OH NO YOU DI-INT!” They simply said, hey, that was uncalled for. She said she didn’t like your clothes, and you [you bratty prick] responded with a personal attack. In short, you suck.
@Tangent, I did in fact watch the whole season. I’ve been a fan since the very first episode, and I couldn’t care less for most TV that isn’t The Wire.
Yay for Seth Aaron. Emilio’s was simplistic, and resurrected the worst of 70’s shag carpet color palettes. Mustard, really?
Wow. I didn’t think Emilio was all that obnoxious, other than abandoning Holly, who I was crushing on. However, in this last show, he seemed a little too hurt that he didn’t win. If you’re in a business that’s so dependent on peoples’ opinions about “style,” you need to accept that you can only present your best work and hope people like it. Other than the bikini from hell, I tended to like his stuff, though his collection for the runway was not all that impressive.
I was really rooting for Seth Aaron after Tim Gunn told him to basically throw his collection out and start again. That was impressive work under that amount of pressure.
I really think Ping should not have been in the competition at all, and I assume she cried at every interview (and every time someone opened a door, or breathed, or any time an electron changed energy states anywhere in the universe).
Totally random, but I passed by Seth Aaron on the street last night. I didn’t know he was still in NYC. I recognized his hair immediately.
I was somewhat happy with the results. I mean, I didn’t really like the entire collection for any of them. But each one had a few amazing pieces, a few decent pieces, and one or two horrible pieces.
Mila did about the best you can do with her signature style, but unfortunately her signature style is something that is somewhat limited and boring to start with. And a few of her pieces really were not flattering about the stomach/waist area. Plus, I thought Jay did a much better job with his design off. Based on the judges talk it sounded like they picked Mila only because she was closer to the end of her career and Jay would have more opportunities. Does anyone know where we can see pictures of Jay’s full decoy show?
Emilio was a little bit more commercial. And he had way more color than the other two. But the criticism “it’s a line not a collection” was correct. And in it’s own way it was as retro as Mila’s. Looked very 90’s rapper Fresh Prince. And wow was he egotistical and a sore loser. I don’t mind his cat fights with Tim, because Tim was very very hard on him. In he was an ass pretty much all the time he opened his mouth.
Seth Aaron was a tad costumey, and has horrible horrible hair. But his clothes were much much more interesting than Mila’s, even though he also used a lot of black and white blocking, didn’t look retro, put on more of a show than Emilio, and he also managed to mature in his work since previous showings. So he was the best in show.
Jay did say a really nasty thing, but you could tell that wasn’t really in his nature. Usually he’s quite sweet and a bit over sensitive. Jay just hasn’t matured to the point where he knows how to deal with other people being nasty to him. I myself have said some nasty things to other people who were mean to me, without even realizing what I was doing, before I learned how to not take it seriously / personally.
Here’s pics and some commentary on Jay’s decoy collection:

In general, I think [URL=“http://projectrungay.blogspot.com/”]Tom and Lorenzo’s blog does a great job of covering each episode of Project Runway with screen caps and commentary.
