How does one pronounce the name of the President’s daughter?

I would pronounce it MAL-ee-uh.
If it is pronounced the way it is in Hawaii, it’s ma-LEE-uh.
Like Maria with an L, though with an L instead. I suspect that’s the etymology, as Hawaiian does not have the letter R.

And why is it almost always “Sasha and Malia,” rarely “Malia and Sasha”? I’d think the older one would normally be named first.
