Proof romantic love exists?

I thought this was an timely question…

Is there any real proof that romantic love is a real phenomena different from mere lust and attraction? There’s tons of anecdotal evidence as gads of love songs, love poems, and love stories can attest. But is there any sort of scientific evidence? I’m not really sure what sort of proof I’m looking for, maybe brain-wave patterns? Can anyone point me to some research on the subject?

I don’t think I’ve ever fallen in love myself, in lust maybe. But it seems like what most people mean by love is different. Is there even a concensus on what we mean by love? The other emotions seem much easier to define…

Here is a start anyway. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2003/11/031111064658.htm

and a book. http://abcnews.go.com/sections/GMA/HealthyWoman/Why_We_Love_040120.html

and of course there is Tennov’s classic work on Limerence

Happy reading.

From the article:

As Drew Curtis would say, still no cure for cancer.

Cool, thanks Gfactor, that’s exactly the type of thing I was looking for. And the book looks interesting as well.
