I just saw the episode with the casino, where the lion mauls the Siegfried and Roy spoof guys.
What other Simpsons’ moments turned out to be prophetic?

Barney: “Hey! That looks like Princess Di!!..aww wait, it’s just a pile of rags!”
Every time I see that episode, I tell myself “Self, you’re not going to laugh at that…”
Didn’t Bill Clinton serve his last term naked and in a tube?
Well, the chimps NASA sent into space DID come back super-intelligent, but you, uh, didn’t hear it from me.
Yeah, but they got the winner wrong. It was Kodos by a landslide.
Although the December 2004 tsunami was not centered in Malaysia, I think some people there might have been killed:
“500 dead in tidal wave in Kuala…Kualalalala…France.”
In one episode Homer talks about how Barney would fly a plane into the White House.
Nerdy, nerdy, nerdy nitpick: Homer was actually referring to the NASA shuttle they were both competing for a place on.
Or he could be referring to the jetpack he stole. He doesn’t exactly say what it is, he just mockingly refers to his competitor as Barney “Let’s fly into the White House and kill the President” Gumble. And another thing: how come I can’t find any Tang around here?
“They put all the jerks in Tower One.”
One of my favorite prescient moments was when Otto’s ex-girlfriend says to Marge, “Wow, you’re a regular Martha Stewart…well, without the evil!” This was 2 years before Martha’s little brouhaha with the law.
When did the episode first air? When I saw it in reruns I figured that it was a reference to the guy who flew his Cessna into the WH in an attempt to kill Clinton (1994 I think). That would make the joke a reaction to past events, not prophetic of 9-11 terrorists plans.
…either that or somebody remembered Sam Byck, either directly or from being a Sondheim fan.
“Ya know why I did it? Cause there isn’t any Santa Claus!”
In the George Bush episode, Homer impersonates Jeb Bush and George W. Bush.
Homer: It’s your sons, Jeb Bush and George Bush Jr!
George Bush: Bar, the boys are here! They’ll help me think of a plan!
Barbara Bush: Oh George, the boys probably just want letters of recommendation.
I believe this was before they became governors of Florida and Texas. Of four Bush brothers, the writers picked the two that would go on to national prominence.
February 24, 1994. Clinton, eh? If anyone would know where to get Tang, it would be him.
“Sometiimes I widdles the few-cher” /Cleatus
That happened before that nut flew the Cessna into Clinton’s WH. I remember because right after the real event occurred my brother and I, both huge Simpsons fans, wanted to be the first to use the, “I don’ see Barney “Let’s fly into the White House and kill the President” Gumble!” on each other (he remembered before me).
BTW, it was episode 1F13 Deep Space Homer from season 5.
Wow, looks like the real-life crash was Sept of that year, while the episode ran in Feb. One wonders if the nutcase pilot didn’t first get the idea from the Simpson’s episode aired a few months earlier.
Looking at the transcript, I see that I was wrong- Homer was suggesting that Barney would use the rocket to kill the President.
My favorite Simpson’s “prophecy,” if you can call it that, was the episode where Marge plays Blanche in a musical version of A Streetcar Named Desire. The whole concept was so over the top I thought it was hilarious. I mean a Streetcar musical – pffft… like anyone would seriously do that!
Then Peter Sellars went and wrote a Streetcar Opera!
I just caught the old (first season?) episode when Bart goes to Hell. The devil tells him it was a mistake and he is not due to die until the Yankees win the pennant again which is almost a hundred years from now. Now that I think about it, not very prophetic
