Proposed Trade- Books for Caps?

I am moving cross-country.

Toward that end, I am trying to travel as light as possible.

In keeping with this idea, I intend to get rid of the greatest physical manifestation of one of my character flaws- putting too much faith in people.

This manifestation is my collection of Terry Goodkind books, books 2-7 in hardcover, and Book 8 (Pillars of Creation) in paperback.

Some on these boards wonder just how bad he is. And, in the interests of education, I would rather provide this hypothetical Doper with the proof rather than foist them on some poor slob at Goodwill who thinks he’s getting a bargain.

Thus I propose to trade them all for the (one-size-fits-all) cap of a minor-league team in some other Doper’s area, with shipping for the cap to be paid by me and shipping for the books paid by whoever wants to end his life slowly by reading them.

Is this permissible, and, if so, how would I go about it?

I am moving this to MPSIMS – where such a transaction might well take place.

Thanks kindly.

In the further interest of saving trailer space, I would also like to add as a separate proposed transaction a bunch of books by David “Same Song, Different Chorus” Eddings. The bunch includes most (if not all) of the Malloreon, two books (I believe the second and third) from the Tamuli, and The Redemption of Althalus. Eddings is much more readable than Goodkind and especially suitable for a kid or a casual reader who doesn’t yet feel the need to fanwank.
Same terms- the entire bunch of books for a ballcap from the minor league team in your area.
Could a passing mod please change the title to “Proposed Trade- Books for Caps” also?

Minor league baseball only or any sport?

If “any”, then I offer the Orlando Predators: made the AFL playoffs 16 years in a row!

Not it!

Whew, that was close.

I’ll bite, it will be a good excuse to check the dosage of my anti-depressant medication. That plus, if all the books will fit into a Large Flat Rate box (available in any post office or shipped to you free from USPS.com; why yes this is a shameless plug for my #1 customer, thank you for asking) then my shipping will be $12.95, quite a bargan for some heavy books.

I trust a OSFA cap from The Indianapolis Indians fits the requirements (Also have access to Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Pacers).

Let me know here or in a message, I have limited access to the e-mail account listed in my profile.

nd_n8, would you like to be inflicted with Goodkind or Eddings?

Goodkind is in pristine shape, but will occupy much more room and weight.

Eddings is all paperbacks in better-than-good condition and will likely make easier shipping.
RNATB, for now I hope you accept standby status. I am a baseball junkie and am moving a 5-minute drive from the Staples Center and my sister has access to her company’s Avengers season tix, which, inexplicably, nobody wants.

So as a new kid in LA with limited entertainment options, I will be cultivating that fanhood.

Should I get no bites, or should I decide more books have to go, I will be happy to pick up the RNATB-phone.

Well, as I plan on using these as alternative dicipline for my kids who don’t get their homework assignments turned in I suppose the Eddings would be enough. (actually I’m quite looking forward to reading them myself)

So Indy Indians it is then, pm me and we can hash out the sortid details.

Not in a million years would I go for this (I read about 20 pages of Eddings once . . . Goodkind must the be literary equivalent of Ebola) but I thought I’d mention that this all amuses me very much.

I read the title and tried to figure out what hockey team was called the Books. And also, who’d want the Caps that badly anyway??

I’d join in the trade but our Macon Music just got shut down last month for lack of corporate sponsorship. This after the schedule was set and printed in the paper…

nd_n8, your books are on the way.

Goodkind still up for grabs- perhaps more should I realize the cargo container won’t hold 5 shelves worth of books as well as two people’s stuff.

Cool.

The required compensation is laying in a bag in my closet awaiting arrival.

Good luck with the Goodkind.

For some reason, despite the fact that I’ve seen this thread title on the list several times before, this time I read it as Proposed Trade - Books for Cops? and I started imagining some sort of program to stock libraries at police stations.

So I’m relaxing on a sunny Saturday afternoon. There are birds singing, the gentle laughter of children swimming and the soft perfume of a warm summer afternoon fills the air.

Suddenly it grows dim. Dark, ominous clouds roll across the sky. Thunder rolls across the fields and forests echoing throughout the central Indiana landscape.

Curious about this new development I opened the front door and there, sitting next to the feral pumpkins growing between our foundation slab and the front porch, sits a small package glowing faintly with evil.

I opened the package carefully (after securing it within a circle of salt drawn by a virgin) and found within - The Eddings.

Thunder claps sound much louder now, drowning out my maniacal laughter, Mwahahahaha… The fun is about to begin.

Seriously though, the books came today and I will have the cap in the mail Monday. Thanks again, they look great. - N8

Your writing is better than Eddings’s. Now all you need is three paragraphs describing your defining trait, how all your people are the same, and how your woman controls you, and you’ve got a book!

Remember to get the Belgariad first for better continuity of crap.

I am a little harsh on ol’ Dave, but when I read them for the first time at 13, I did dig them.
The storage unit is packed and ready for shipping.

But stay tuned, everybody. Depending on the size of our apartment in LA, Books For Caps 2: “Ray Feist” and Books for Caps 3: “The Return of Herpes… errr, I mean Terry Goodkind” might be on their way.

Dibs on Feist. I’ll find a minor league hat somewhere.

So, you’ve been reading my previous posts huh

The cap is well on it’s way, should be there any day.

I do feel professionally obligated to mention the USPS Flat Rate box. All of these books would have fit into one and it is $9.30 domestic regardless of weight. I used a USPS BOX4 to send the package out, it was $4.80 but was a few ounces over what it should have been. Both of these are available free online and at a local post office.

Note, the box I used is the old print with the wide blue stripe like the one on the web site. All of the new boxes are new print with a sleek and narrow red stripe like the FRB1 in the first post. I have had that BOX4 sitting around for a little while, one of the perks of running a box warehouse is dibs on the obsolete boxes. I have not had to hit the liquor store up for moving boxes in about 15 years.

It’s cool what the post office is willing to deliver to your door for free:boxes, tape, labels and stuff. Plus, Ol’ N8 needs the money - to pick up some Piers Anthony and wash the taste of the Eddings out of my mouth - so help yourself to as many postal boxes as you wish.

Ok, I’ll turn the professional box maker stuff off now.

I dunno. I didn’t really mind Terry all that much. Sure, he has a habit of changing perspectives and tenses from chapter to chapter, but the stories at least weren’t horrible. I’ve read worse. I still like Eddings, too. None of them hold a candle to James “Robert” Oliver “Jordan” Rigney Jr. though.

**nd_n8, **cap arrived either yesterday or the day before- the days kinda bleed together for me right now. I’ll open it up and break it in on Monday.

How far in the series did you GET?
