What the fuck? Hasn’t “porn equals child abuse/rape/sexual deviants” been pretty much discounted? From what I can tell putting the blame on porn is the same as blaming cigarettes for creating sexual predators. Correct me if I’m wrong but there really isn’t solid evidence to back up that claim.

How come the US government has to create a “war on everything”. Porn is used by a vast majority of the USA. Hundreds of thousands of healthy people enjoy porn in the privacy of their own homes. Couples rent and buy porn to “spice up” their sex lives. Porn is a multi-billion dollar TAX PAYING industry. Just because George is a pent up little fucker doesn’t mean everyone else is. (Trust me on this one. I used to repair computers. 80% of the hard drives had some sort of porn on them.)

Porn is not an underground thing. I can walk 5 minutes to my nearby “stop-n-rob” store and legally buy Busty Teen Vixens*, or wander up one block to another store and buy Playboy or Penthouse. I can enter the word “tits” in google and have 30,000 returns. I can drive down to my corner adult video store and get Stop my Ass is on Fire - Volume 3 on DVD and a vibrating jelly butt plug to go. I can turn on my TV and flip to the “porn-per-view” channels, agree to spend $8.99 for two hours and PRESTO, naked, oiled, implanted girls with fake fingernails and too much makeup appear on the tube. Just because I can do these things (and HAVE done several of them) does not mean I’m driving over to the grade school to kidnap and rape pre-teen girls. I’m not suddenly overtaken by the urge to go jerk off in the produce section at the market. I’m not going to start stalking the high school cheerleading squad. And guess what? Neither are the million plus other porn users the US.

The Whitehouse is claiming porn creates bad people. It simply does not. If it did, the USA would be filled to the brim with sex offenders. Child abusers commonly stem from being abused as children. Sexual predators and rapists are about power, not sex. These people have real, deep rooted problems which were not caused by watching Edward Penishands.

I’m not saying the US shouldn’t go after sexual predators with their biggest stick, they should. I’m not saying the feds shouldn’t bust child pornography rings, they should. But if you’re going to give it a name, give it an honest name. This isn’t the fucking 50’s. Porn, masturbation and sex are not going to make way for communist Russia.

Like what? Book burning? Arresting stripers and anyone else with fake fingernails, big hair, too much make-up and breast implants? Why don’t we just over react all together and ban cameras, computers, paper and printing presses?

That is such an appropriate typo … Here in the UK, Mary Whitehouse was the founder, and for many years the leader, of the National Viewers’ and Listeners’ Association, an organization tirelessly dedicated to keeping sex and violence off our TV screens. She was a silly old bat.

There is a video taped interview of Ted Bundy mere hours (supposedly) before his execution where he is quite vocal on his view of the link between between porn and death row.

But, that was a convicted serial murderer, not a psychologist.

Everything I’ve ever read or heard seems completely polarised to one side or the other (no cites) of the debate. Are there any definitive answers to any of the claims, for either view?

As part of this protection from pornography week proclamation, he talks about committing resources to investigate sexual exploitation of children over the Internet and other such things. Fine. I have no problem with that. But this, this I cannot stand:

Who the fuck gives a shit about obscenity? Seriously, folks. Obscenity laws are stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid. As long as nobody’s getting hurt, as long as nobody’s being forced into doing something, why is it the government’s business what kind of sick shit I want to look at? It shouldn’t be, but it is.

And what exactly are the “dangers of pornography”? Orgasms? No, wait. That’s not a bad thing. I… I… gahh! Why do we need to be protected? Why?! Do we need a Protection From Naughty Words Week too? Protection From Scary Movies Week? How many damn things is Bush going to protect? Gays are icky, we need to protect ourselves from them marrying. Porn makes me uncomfortable, we need to protect ourselves from it. Give it a break.

re: Ted Bundy, I’d say it was more likely that he amassed a large porn collection as a result of his already warped psyche, rather than the other way around.

As for Bundy’s ‘admission’ it sounds more like him trying to defer the blame away from himself and on to an easy scapegoat that can’t refute his claims.
