Protestors

Us Yippies, on the other had, bathe daily!

Peta, the group that in the magazine Petakids, advocates yelling at everyone who walks by you on the badness of meat.

Maybe someone should throw a rubber broccoli at them. :stuck_out_tongue:

Perhaps the fleas were protesting as well. They are flea-brained after all.

Now that the G8 Summit is over, the protestors have gone on to whatever the hell else there is to protest.

Outside the usual “disturbing the peace” arrests, there was very little trouble.

In Brunswick, about a dozen protestors are still in jail. Why? They refuse to give police their real names (a misdemenor). Most of the protestors marched, carried signs, and did the thing protestors do (except, thankfully, destroy the city). What I found interesting was that most of them kept their faces covered. I don’t know protestor protocol, but this strikes me as hypocritical.

Seems like you’d want the world to know who you are and what you’re against.

Just a WAG:

Contrary to common belief among the ignorati, many people who attend protests such as this also have regular jobs in order to pay the rent and put (in this case) vegetarian food on the table.

Some of these people’s day jobs might be at places where the powers-that-be might take umbrage at their employees participating in such a protest. Hence the desire for anonymity.

No, I’m serious. I’ve pretty much always heard “hippie” as a perjorative, except, I guess, by hippies.

It’s always been my own experience that protestors are also activists in other ways. I think I’ve done all of the above except for the Big Sister program which I considered doing, but did counselling instead.

Some of you have a strange “need” to denigrate these protestors by making them “flea-infested,” unclean and stupid. If you have to resort to those tactics, your arguments are weak.

And I don’t even agree with these particular protestors.

I support the right of people to protest anything non-violently – whether it be Michael Moore’s movie, “under God” in the pledge, the removal of “under God” from the pledge, a poll tax in Concord, Massachusetts or British rule in India by “that dirty little man.”

Ugh. I’m vegan and these PETA fools make me wanna throw raw meat at 'em.

These are the morons that lead many carnivores to believe it’s perfectly okay to begin lambasting and interrogating a vegan or vegetarian upon being informed of their diet instead of just leaving them the fuck alone to enjoy their veggies in peace, which is all they really want.

Rat bastards.

Salads are only for muderers
Coleslaw’s a fascist regime
Don’t think that they don’t have feelings
Just 'cause a radish can’t scream

I love that song!

This is unrelated except by the most flimsy of connections:

My wife and I have always referred to KFC as “Bucky Fuck.”

Dunno why. Don’t think about it.

Unfortunately, this is not what the PETA folks want. I’m more than happy to let Vegans eat their veggies in peace, unfortunately many of these PETA folks want to activly keep me from eating my steak in peace. Respect. You get what you give.

Yup.

And PETA can lick my meaty balls.

No shit. That’s why I loathe these PETA fools. The lack of respect they give seems to directly effect the lack of respect I, and other vegetarians get. Hardly seems fair, considering I don’t know any of these people nor do I agree with their positions or tactics. Doesn’t stop Joe Random Carnivore from giving me shit the minute he finds out I’m vegan (which I desperately try to hide to avoid these confrontations).

So are you saying it’s right that the lack of respect they give affects the lack of respect I get?

And also, there are often cops/ government employees filming/ taking pictures of the protest/ rally/ march. A city cop videotaped the TA rally and march, and I literally saw someone halfway-hanging out their window taking photos of the protestors when Tom Ridge came to town a few years back.

What do you have against the UW mascot?

[hijack]
[singing]If you want to be a Badger,
just come along with me,
by the bright shining light of the moon…[/singing]

Erm, sorry. I love Bucky. (Class of '93!)

(emphasis added)

Like it or not, you’re associated with them. I have friends who are vegetarians and I never would have known if they hadn’t told me. Their perfectly nice people, and it would be ridiculous to make judgements about their character based on their diets.

That said, your militant veggies are some of the most obnoxious people on the planet, and you get stuck dealing with negative image they’ve created. I’m sure the vast majority of vegitarians are reasonable people, but we never hear from them and the obvious ones are all complete assholes.

You may also want to reconsider the “carnivore” cracks, as long as we’re on the subject of respect.

That answer is obvious. The rooster…

We only get “stuck dealing with the negative image” because some morons apparently can’t figure out that a few militants don’t necessarily speak for the whole community.

I don’t judge all Christians based on the rantings of Fred Phelps or Jesse Helms or Pat Robertson. I don’t judge all Muslims based on the actions of Al Qaeda members. I don’t judge all conservatives by the mindless dribble or Ann Coulter.

If anyone does judge all vegetarians based on the actions of a few, maybe they need to ask themselves whether it’s really PETA that’s the problem, or their own lack of critical faculties.

we were in Target a few weeks ago, and some guy and 2 women walk by doing the Alec Baldwin Schwede Balls scene from SNL.

maybe you should plan to protest the protestors?

think about the good you could do…

I’m still gonna wear my “How many tomatos died for your salad?” shirt with pride.
